i cancelled my service today and they want to charge cancellation fees whether there is a contract signed by me or not. my acc # 8255909762047121

I had AT&T as my TV service provider for about 13 months and I was paying them my bill then they transferred my account to Dish Network without telling me that and I started paying Dish Network and I never been late.
Today April 22 I called them to cancel my service and I've been told that I need to pay cancellation fees because my contract is for 24 months. I told them that I didn't sign any contract with them and if they have any document signed by me I would be more than happy to pay whatever money.
They said that if I do have a contract I need to pay $ 10 for every month remains on the contract and if I don't have a contract they'll charge me signing up fees

This means they will charge me in either way (whether there is a contract or not) and they're doing this to force me not to cancel my service with them and to keep me as a refugee to stay with them although I don't want to
I called them between April 15 and 18 (i believe it was a Tuesday) and I've been told (by a male service rep.) that there is no contract and I'm free to cancel my service at any time with no cancellation fees but today when I tried to do so they said what stated above
I've been with them on the phone for 34 minutes and I spoke to 7 different people and they kept on transferring me from a department to another till finally they transferred me to somebody's voice mail where I left a message with my details to call me back
they're giving me hard time and always threaten me that I'll pay money whether there is a contract signed by me or not

finally they said if there is a contract i'll pay cancellation fees and if there is not a contract they'll charge me for all the offers they gave me during my service period with them (although being sure that the customer signed a contract is not my fault)
once they knew that i'm leaving they started to talk to me very badly and completely different that the way they announce on TV about how they take care of their customers

DISH Network response

AUTHOR: MikeJH@DISH Network - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, December 23, 2010

Hello, my name is Michael Hurst. I work for DISH Network Customer Service. I'm extremely sorry to hear about all these issues you have experienced with DISH Network. I understand that you had a bundled account with DISH and AT&T and it seems that you havent been given all the information on how it works so Im going to give you all the information that may help with the issues that you have had. Since you had DISH and AT&T you were getting 1 bill for 2 companies. After looking at your accounts that you had with us it looks like what happened is your account with AT&T was cancelled and no longer qualified for bundled service. When a bundled account is cancelled the DISH account comes back to us since you are getting TV service from us and not AT&T.

This makes it so DISH can collect equipment if the account isnt going to be used any longer. You also stated that there was a contract that DISH advised you of, the information about the contract would be correct, however you werent give the correct information. &nbspWhen accounts are setup there are 2 options: First option is to have a 24 contract/agreement with a special rate for 12 months. Second option is regular price no agreement/contract but there is an activation fee of $99.00.

In your case it looks like you had the special pricing for the 12 months and free activation. If we are unable to find a contract then we wouldnt hold you to a cancellation fee. What would happen is we would charge the activation fee and any promotional credits that have been provided would remain on the account and not charged to you. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at Michael.hurst@dishnetwork.com.

Thank you
