I paid his pet sitter to come to my house and care for my two dogs three times a day for three days. She never showed up for the mid day visit and left my dogs unattended for 16 hours !! Poor dog had to poo on the floor, which he has never done. He was so upset. When I confronted her about it she lied and said that she did come, she claimed "I swear I did". However, I have a nanny cam and it said it all. She apparently forgot about the nanny cam. She was a no show and still charged me for the visit.

She cannot be trusted. She acts all sweet but does not give a darn about the animals. She's neglectful and should NOT be allowed to take care of animals.
Her website also says that she is a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI). PSI tells me that she is no longer a member or they would pursue a complaint. She also is not registered with the Better Business Bureau. I don't even know if she even has insurance anymore, so beware. I now plan to talk to the state attorney general to find out if I have any recourse.

Does the pet sitter have insurance?

AUTHOR: Kelley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 18, 2008

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with a pet sitter. I'm glad you had a nanny cam!

Fortunately in the U.S. (as well as other countries) it IS fairly easy to tell if a pet sitter has a current insurance policy. There are only a small handful of pet sitting insurance providers that offer liability insurance that covers care of a pet in it's OWN home. The vast majority of sitters use two of these. And both welcome clients to call and ask if a sitter is covered, at any time.

If you sitter says they have another provider, ask to see the policy. Most individual policies do not cover care, custody, and control of a pet, so it is important you find a sitter with a policy that does.

I DEFINITELY recommend all clients call the insurance agent before booking a new sitter. It never hurts to check! And it will tell you alot about reliability and honesty of a sitter says they are insured, but the insurer says differently.

You can find the contact phone numbers for all 3 major pet sitter insurers in the U.S. (as well as other major insurers in other countries, including Canada) on this page:
