I was tricked into switching from Pacific Bell to their company, Allegiance Telecom with no hassle. Wow, it was a headache from beginning to end. Finally, one day our business had to move to a different location. I tried to switch the service to the new location, they could not do so because they don't service that area. Therefore, I cancelled the service with them and went back to Pacific Bell (SBC now).

Well, after I paid them the final bill at my new location, about 5 months later I received a collection letter from a place called Nationwide Recovery Systems based at Carrolton, Texas. They claimed that I owed them $1771 !!!!! For what? I asked. They said for all the service that I've been getting. I told them that i haven't been getting any service from them. I have with SBC now.

Anyway, back and forth with so much frustration I hang up the phone with them. They keep insist that I negotiate with them to settle. But til now, I still don't know what to settle with them, because I don't owe them nor do I have been receiving any types of service from them.

So, if anyone from Allegiance Telecom tries to get your business, please think twice before you do so. It's going to sound so wonderful and tempting, but PLEASE DO NOT subscribe them. You'll be sooooo sorry. Please pass this report on to everyone, and please if anyone can advise me what to do or how to deal with them, I am so greatly appreciate that. Take care.

You do have options

I am a consultant for telecommunications and have seen this many times in the past. It is fact they make you do the request in writing. If it is handled properly, the fact that you requested them to handle the move order which they declined, can be used as a disconnect request. Since you are handling this on your own, the PUC (Public Utility Commission) is the governmental watchdog over the telecom providers. They are already on your side, contact them and have them assist you. They scare the holy heaven out of phone companies. Have some fun with this, you can win totally if you try. I have had dozens of accounts in the same type of status. Not one has paid a dime. Good luck.

That's exactly my point. We moved our office which is currently 4 blocks away from the existing then office, which subscribed Allegiance Service. We requested them to move their service to our new office, they claimed that they don't service that area! Did I already mentioned "4 blocks away" !!!!!!!!!!!. My opionion of Allegiance still has not changed. A horrible and unprofessional company !

Senior Account Executive - I have seen this happen with every carrier

AUTHOR: Michael - Senior Account Executive - (U.S.A.)

The contract, which Thuan must have signed and has a copy of, clearly states that he must inform in writing of his intention to disconect service. All telecommunications companies must state this information on the contract the customer signs. The only reason someone would get a bill for service even though they did not use the service is because they failed to follow this simple instruction.

Even if the contract term is not met the customer has the right to move and switch carriers if the carrier which customer is in term with does not offer service at the new location.

If there is no notice to disconnect the carrier cannot disconect circuit and gets billed for the circuit regardles if telephone numbers have been ported to a different carrier.

I have seen this happen with every carrier, ILEC and CLEC. Following the contract rules would have prevented Thuan from this problem.
