Why movers are a bunch of thugs, especially you Alpha city movers & storage

I am on a work permit in Canada and was a victim of a very well organized racket (surprisingly in a law abiding & morally superior country like Canada). I moved on 27th June from 40-Gerrard Street east to 736-Bay street (a move of kilometer). The movers racket claimed another victim on Saturday (which was coincidentally my birthday).

After having being warned my many people & past experience i contact Alpha moving & storage & speak to one Ron (who is apparently a manager). I am told that the charges are 45 dollars per hour & one hour travel time.

I ask very specifically about any hidden charges & i am laughed at & told that there is no hidden charges.

The movers arrive & hand out an agreement. A copy is attached. It is signed & they start moving. After loading half stuff in the truck they ask me for a 400 dollar deposit. Ummmm.. OK. I am sure my final bill will be less than that.

Once we reach the new place, they give me a bill of 560 dollars. What??????????

The bill included dispatch fees' of 40 dollars, gas fees' of 40 dollars & a 2 way moving charge of 90 dollars. Besides there is a 100 dollar charge of heavy items. The bill is also attached.

I can understand the heavy item but the remaining 40 + 40 + 45 dollars....where did that come from??????

I call the number & again get Ron. He in turn starts accusing me of holding the payment of the moving company. I am sure he expected this call (& i am sure everyone who has hired movers has gone thru' this & makes a desperate call)

I tell him that i had asked very specifically about any other charges before & he had said no. He in turn replies that if he started explaining me all the charges then he would have to spend half an hour with me. He has many more calls to handle. He tells me that i should be grateful that i am getting such a cheap deal.
He says that at this time they charge 2 way traveling & refuses to acknowledge that he had told me that i would be charged one way (i wish i had taped the first coversation)

Now if i do not pay the remaining amount the moving guys will not release the entire baggage in their truck.
No option but i have to pay. I call back & the same voice now claims to be someone else & says he has no idea as Ron is left. I have to pay.

No option and i pay 560 dollars for a move that by original calculation was going to cost 300 350 dollars.

What a racket!!??
I have the following questions:

1) you have such a glorious website but why the hell you can't mention the one page terms & conditions?
Ans: the whole idea is to hide the cost

2) Why is the agreement always show just before the move?
Ans: No one will cancel a move at the last minute. There is so much planning involved, booking service elevators, leave etc. I am not going to look for a new mover at the last minute.

3) why in the agreement there is no mention of dispatch fee & gas fee? Mr. Ron told me that these fees are understood. There is no need to mention these at anytimes. Ans: Another money making tactic

4) why was i charged 2-way moving fees when the agreement mentions one-way fees.
Ans: you guys are really hungry for money

5) why are the actual moving guys always no speak english' types? All they can say is they no nothing, contact manager.
Ans: even if they know english they know it is best to stay quiet. Eventually the money will come.

6) why only cash when website mentions debit & credit card?
Ans: so that you do not have to pay taxes.

7) Why submit the bill with hidden charges after loading the truck?
Ans: Obvious isn't it. So you can hold the client stuffs hostage & there is no way he can back off.

Ans: just shows that u guys are immoral & will go to any extent to make black money

The movers run such a huge racket, it is unbelieveable. A very corrupt money making group of low-value humans. The way the speak later explains everything.
What is more impressive is that the first response to a complaint is aggression. They know that every client will call, so it is just a routine for them.

They know that the client will not pursue this thing longer as it is relatively trivial issue.

I humbly request the law makers & the news makers to please investigate this racket & have it more regularised.
It is not a question about money but about principles
It is also a question of money for us on stipend money
look for reviews and choose a mover with good reviews (though some may have been posted by the mover themselves)
