I booked the "sequoia" for 6 nights with these two for the first week in February, 2009 for about $2,300...

The second night we were there the *brand new* house we were in had an electrical fire somewhere in the walls.

They put us up for the night in another house, the "Ponderosa". We didn't get much sleep because we had to move all of our possessions to the other house and didn't get to ski the next day.

The "Ponderosa" was filthy, the sheets had not been cleaned, the hot tub smelled like a pond, the house smelled like a cat had been in it, and there were bags of garbage on the floor of the kitchen.

I contacted Libby, co-owner of the houses the following morning. The "management team" had not notified the owner that one of their brand new houses had nearly burned down...

On to the next house...

We were offered the "Gressoney" a much nicer house. This one was stick built, where the other two were trailer houses of poor construction quality. The decks were literally stapled together. However, there were not enough beds for our guests, the hot tub did not work, nor did the ice maker.

The "Gressoney" cost $50/night less than the "Sequoia", the house that I had initially paid for.

Upon returning from the mountain one evening, I received a call from "the management team" inquiring about shots that had been fired earlier that day. I explained to them that this was not us. The Mineral County Sheriff's office later showed up to our place. The police recognized the lunacy of the situation and left.

The rest of the week went off without a hitch, except for not having the house we paid for, no hot tub and not enough beds for the guests.

Upon returning home, I realized I had been developing boils on my body. I contacted the other guests of the house and found that they too had similar sores. I found out after consulting a doctor that we had contracted "tub falliculitus" [sp?], a parasite that lives in unclean hot tubs.

I wrote an email to alpineaccents@earthlink.net explaining our situation, and how I felt it to be reasonable to ask for a refund for the difference in rates between the houses, as well as not to be charged for the night we almost burned to death.

I received a call from Brett, co-owner with Libby. Brett made threats to me that we had trashed his house, that I owed him $475 for damages, that there were 2 people who had stayed that had warrants for their arrest (I work in the criminal justice system), and that if I did not promptly pay for the "damages" that he would have criminal charges pressed for "property damage". He had also admitted to trying to make an unauthorized charge on my credit card, and that he would try the other card that I had used to book the house on. Oh, I almost forgot that he said the cleaning people found "drug paraphernalia" in the house...

He also made comments to the effect that it was our fault that the electrical work was faulty.

I spoke with him again that night when he insulted me, told me I was "a f***ing 2 year old b***h" and that he was going to press charges against me. His speech was slurred and he sounded drunk and agitated.

He owes me at least $500, the difference between the house we booked and the one we actually stayed in and for one night spent moving to the other dirty house.

I have made numerous, reasonable attempts to contact Brett. I am met with profanity, insults, and threats. He still insists that he is going to press criminal charges on me.

I am much younger than Libby or Brett, and I know that they feel if they threaten me that I will just go away. Beware of these people, they are dishonest!!!!

Update After BBB complaint

AUTHOR: Mike G - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 09, 2009

I have recieved the BBB response from Libby Crossley and "Brett" I will go over the lies that are very obvious and can be refuted easily:

Mr. Getchis booked the Sequoia cabin at Alpine Accents for 5 people.

***I paid $2,375 for the house for 6 nights. That's 6 nights @ $350 including tax. the exact amount for 7 people.***

Upon arrival he signed the registration card and stated there were 7 guests. Later, he purchased group ski discount tickets for 10 individuals, who were all staying as his guest.

***Alpine Accents does not offer "group ski discount tickets". The gas station nearby sells them for 3 dollars less than on the mountain. The other individuals had met us that morning.***

The number of guests doubled without notification and no attempt was made to take financial responsibility for the additional guests. It was later discovered that Mr. Getchis brought a rabbit into the cabin, which violates Alpine Accents no pet policy. Mr. Getchis later admits to bringing the rabbit inside and leaving it in the shower. The cleaning crew found several areas of urine and rabbit excrement throughout the Sequoia unit; as well as blood in the refrigerator and microwave oven. The total cost of damages occurred from Mr. Getchis stay totaled $475, which included the carpets cleaned, refinishing the damaged area of the oak floor, repaired damaged baseboard, disinfect, sanitize, and cleaning the chalet.

***We were never made aware of the "no pet policy" the rabbit never left the bathroom, where the floor was tiled. Besides that, it was in a cage. Libby Crossley has not seen any of this first had. The "damage estimate" was somehow available the day after we departed.

On the night of February 2, approximately midnight, management was alerted by the Getchis party of a fire in the cabin. The manger rushed to the scene to find no evidence of a fire, but all of the guests sitting calmly on the couch. All guest appeared to be intoxicated. The fire department was not called.

***We knew the source of the fire, as a circuit breaker kept tripping that evening. Someone had hung a towel rack in the hallway bathroom and screwed into the door. It would be a good guess to say that the problem is probably around that area. No-body was intoxicated that evening. We were all on the couch for fear that the place was going to catch fire. Libby Crossley also fails to mention that earlier in their rebuttal they had mentioned that the cleaning crew found a melted garbage can, something that might have been relavent in their rebuttal.***

In order to accommodate Mr. Getchis and his party, they were moved to El Dora not Ponderosa as stated. El Dora was in the process of being cleaned; nevertheless, the majority of the cleaning had been finished. Mr. Getchis was not satisfied with El Dora so he and his guests were offered another chalet. (Gressoney)

***This house was too small and did not have enough beds to accomadate our party***

The next morning a certified electrician came out to inspect the cabin and found no signs of an electrical fire or damage. He did find a garbage can that had been burned and notified management upon departure. When management attempted to inspect the trash can, it had been removed from the property.

***More lies. Why would we set fire to a garbage can, then wake up the "management team"? The electrician was only on scene for fifteen minutes. Not nearly enough time to check the obviously faulty circuits***

Regarding the issue of gun fire, a neighbor across the river called complaining of gun fire. There was a clear distinction between fireworks and gun fire. The sheriff was called out to investigate the issue. At the time only one person was at the cabin. The sheriff did not return to speak to the group due to a priority incident that superseded the investigation. Casings from the groups guns were found and remain in the sheriff's possession. Mr. Getchis claims that gun fire is common in this area due to hunting. It is not currently hunting season and all area residents are fully aware of any gunfire outside the scope of hunting season. Guns and rifles where observed at by management at the time they were called to the fire incident.

***Again, I have no idea how any of the above paragraph is relavent. The guns were lawfully purchased and possessed. They were never observed by anyone as they never left their cases. Hard cases may have been observed, but certainly not the firarms themselves.***

Mr. Getchis stated in his complaint that the hot tubs were not working and they were unable to use it; then in the next sentence he claims to have boils on his skin from being in the hot tub. As one can see these two statements are contradictory. All hot tubs at Alpine Accents are maintained, checked, and chemical tested and cleaned on a regularly scheduled basis. .

***I suppose they are contradictory if one ignores context clues. We were forced to use 2 different hot tubs during our stay. The tub at Gressoney did "work" in that water was in it, but it would not stay hot. All of us had boils on our skin and required medical treatment to get rid of said disease. I hardly think this was a coincidence***

After many attempts to accommodate Mr. Getchis it is obvious to all parties concerned that Mr. Getchis is attempting defraud Alpine Accents. His false claims are nothing more than a frivolous attempt to obtain free services. We are all very saddened that Mr. Getchis has gone to such an extreme to meet his goals.

***This is merely an attempt to pit her/his word against mine. Look at the report, read the whole history, then you decide who is lying.***

Alpine Accents have been in business since 2001. In nine years of operation we have never experienced guest dissatisfaction; on the contrary, we have a history of positive testimonies written by former guests who have enjoyed their stay with us. It is our hope that Mr. Getchis futile attempt to disparage and degrade our business will be recognized as nothing more than deceitful and without merit.

***2009-2001=8. Note the difference in tone when Libby Crossley and Brett address the BBB as compared to this report. It is very obvious that the two of them know they owe us a refund, and are being very two faced about it.***

Brett and Libby Crossley have not seen any of the "damage" that supposedly occured to their "chalet". They are receiving information from a cleaning crew that said I should "smoke a blunt", an electrician who is very obviously ripping them off (they are in california), and a "management team" who is very obviously too busy harassing tennants to clean the hot tubs properly. I have wired countless houses, as my father is an electrician. Electrical problems don't just go away. One of the people in our group owns a pool servicing company, none of the hot tubs were properly cared for. The chemicals that were available to clean the hot tub were not the correct ones.

Below is my original report submitted to the BBB, feel free to read and compare:

Consumer's Original Complaint :

I received a call from Brett, co-owner with Libby. Brett made threats to me that we had trashed his house, that I owed him $475 for damages, that there were 2 people who had stayed that had warrants for their arrest (I work in the criminal justice system), and that if I did not promptly pay for the 'damages' that he would have criminal charges pressed for 'property damage'. He also made comments to the effect that it was our fault that the electrical work was faulty.

I spoke with him again that night when he insulted me, told me I was 'a f**king 2 year old b***h' and that he was going to press charges against me. His speech was slurred and he sounded drunk and agitated.

He owes me $617.55, the difference between the house we booked and the one we actually stayed in and for one night spent moving to the other dirty house, including tax.

I have made numerous, reasonable attempts to contact Brett. I am met with profanity, insults, and threats. He still insists that he is going to press criminal charges on me.

Since the beginning I feel as though Brett and Libby have been trying to fend off any attempt by me to recover my money. The claims they have made are false, we left the place as we found it. We even made a pile of the laundry that needed to be done; sheets, towels, etc.

Consumer's Desired Resolution:
All I want is the $617.55 the difference between the house rate that I paid, and the rate for the house we ended up in. And since I didn't sleep in a house the night that we spent moving because of the electrical issues, I feel it's fair that I am refunded that amount as well. I also have medical bills for several people who were infected because of unclean hot tubs, but I imagine that would be a separate issue. Thanks!

AUTHOR: Mike G - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 23, 2009

I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau of Sourthern Colorado. I have made attempts to recover what is owed to me, $617.55, And am met with lies and deceitful comments that have no bearing on the situation. I have considered filing a civil lawsuit, but I would like to see a more "civil" resolution to this.

Updated since I've talked to the Sheriff

AUTHOR: Mike g - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

Since my first posting I have since spoken to the Sheriff of Mineral County. He knew nothing of the "marijuana rolling papers or pipe" that was found on the premises. Curious to me, that someone who felt so betrayed by his tenants wouldn't report this fact to the authorities. As John states, I do work for a law office, but also a prosecuting one. I have regular background checks run, My fingerprints are with the FBI, and I am under the constant notice of randomly being drug tested/polygraph. Enough about that.

Brett also told the sheriff that, and I quote "blew up a rabbit in the microwave"... There was a rabbit there, but it is still alive and very happy. It also never left the bathroom, a tiled place where no damage could have happened.

As to the comments about my friends leaving the scene when they found out that we had warrants... Well Brett, the vehicle that you claim had a warrant was the one I was driving, the one I gave the tag number to upon arrival. It also was one that was loaned to me to accommodate all of the supplies we brought along with us. Not that it is relevant at all to the hospitality you extended us, but the warrant was issued in error and is in the process of being quashed. You knew this before you wrote your rebuttal.

I would like to take a minute to address the gun issue here, as Brett does not seem to be satisfied with the sheriff's decision not to pursue it any more. You instead changed subjects. Your house is in the middle of a National Forest, a place where your "management team" apparently hunts frequently. If you would like to see pictures of the animals taken just drop by the office and talk to Tommy.---Perhaps he has some insight into the shots being fired, maybe he was hunting.

The burnt plastic garbage can.... Well it's funny that you can see that from California. Do you drug test your employees? Your cleaning team had mentioned to me that we should "smoke a blunt" on the balcony of one of the houses... perhaps he can offer some insight on this. They also claimed to have found the burnt garbage can outside around the hot tub... There was nothing left outside Brett... Oh except the grill that you advertised to be useable. I guess if we put it together and connected it, then maybe we could have used it.

Brett, expect that the rest of the guests who were involved with this nightmare will be posting their statements.

To all those reviewing: Look at the nature of his statement. I respectfully left out his and Libby's last name. He chose to repeat my whole name throughout the body of his rebuttal. He has also made threats to contact my employer, yet another example of how this scummy landlord will do anything to get out of owning up to his shortcomings.

As to my request for money back, I have not heard anything except this rebuttal. Anyone with access to alpineaccents.net can see that even if he was right about the alleged damage we caused, this landlord would still owe us about a hundred dollars.

Beware of Alpine Accents!!!

One last thing, the "luxury chalets" are poorly assembled trailers.

Bret and Libby: Delusional Owners Running a Dangerous Operation

AUTHOR: John123 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

As a fellow tenant on the first week of February 2009 I'd like to reiterate some relevant information regarding the statements made. As a group of twenty-somethings (not children), it's painfully clear that Bret and his wife are trying to push us around in an attempt to cover their shortcomings as a resort operation.
In regards to our first issue, the house fire: In what way does it make logical sense that we would decide to burn coals in a plastic trash can inside the house, call management in the middle of the night, hide said trashcan, and have an electrician come search for a fantasy electrical issue? All so we could move our belongings to a smaller, uncleaned house at midnight and miss the next day of skiing? I'm no electrician (although I am an auto tech who deals with circuits daily), but wouldn't continually tripping a circuit breaker (at least 5 times within a few hours) using little more than a laptop plugged into a bedroom outlet constitute a problem? This issue was not thoroughly explored, be it due to incompetence of the electrician, or the denial of fault by the owners. THIS HOUSE WAS AND STILL IS DANGEROUS TO INHABIT.
The rest if the statements made have such little base in reality I hardly feel the need to explain them in depth. I'll gloss over them here:
Bret stated that Michael has a warrant out for his arrest. Michael works in a law office... Need I say more?
Bret stated we were shooting firearms and called the police. I personally spoke to the sheriff, who, and I'll paraphrase here, said "Well we're here because we don't really have anything else going on." When I told the sheriff they could check the house out when the rest of the tenants returned, they (the police) opted not to come back at all.
Bret stated that 2 OTHER tenants had warrants out for their arrest. (please...) Well, I for one find it strange that the sheriff's officers I spoke to never mentioned such warrants. Odd that they wouldn't find it necessary to speak to these individuals. We are not a group of delinquents, these are college students with bright futures and no, none of us have had trouble with the law.
A real gem of a statement: "Upon Michael's departure, our cleaning crew found a further nightmare, as follows: Broken baseboards, rabbit urine and feces throughout the chalet (Alpine has a no Pet policy and was not informed about the animal), damaged solid oak floors, blood found in refrigerator & microwave, plastic trash can set on fire. Further, the crew found marijuana papers and a pipe left behind from Michael and his guests." What do you say to something like this? Blood in the refrigerator and microwave? What? Bret states we owe him $475 for fantasy damages, interesting how close that number is to the $500 he owes us for the cheaper lodging we were forced to stay in after putting our lives in danger in the first house. These houses were so ill-kept(for God's sake there were still screws, bolts, and other building material just laying around the house) that any damage found could have been there for months, assuming the damage existed at all.
Never again Bret? Indeed never again. We were initially willing to put what you owe us toward a stay next year despite all the trouble you caused us. We will "never again" subject ourselves to your poor management, inadequate facilities, and childish finger-pointing. We will bring our business elsewhere and I encourage all who read this to do the same.

Michael "Nightmare" Getchis - The Guest From Hell

AUTHOR: Owner - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 12, 2009

Michael's statements are delusional, at best. Everything is a twisted bunch of lies which he has stated in his report. To begin, I will start by letting you all know that the day after his arrival, Michael and his guests from all over the globe were shooting guns in the residential area of our beautiful Rio Grand parcel. When our Sheriff checked this out, there were outstanding warrants for arrest out of Denver. This is just the beginning...

After Michael complained about an alleged fire in one of our new cabins, we immediately had our management team move him to a another new cabin. We called an electrician immediately who tested the entire system and everything was perfect. Then we found melted plastic trash can which Michael and his friends placed hot coals in. This burnt the plastic bin and the smell and smoke which Michael alleged, was his own mess which he created.

After Michael's friends found out that the Sheriff was coming back the next day to address his friends with outstanding warrants, those friends of his left the next morning to ensure they we not hauled off to jail.

Upon Michael's departure, our cleaning crew found a further nightmare, as follows: Broken baseboards, rabbit urine and feces throughout the chalet (Alpine has a no Pet policy and was not informed about the animal), damaged solid oak floors, blood found in refrigerator & microwave, plastic trash can set on fire. Further, the crew found marijuana papers and a pipe left behind from Michael and his guests.

Never again Michael. Your name has been send to all establishments in the area to ensure they never have to share the same nightmare you caused us.

Michael's damages came to $475 to have the carpets cleaned, refinish the damaged area of the oak floor, disinfect, sanitize, and cleaning of the entire chalet, and repair of the damaged baseboard.

I only hope no one else out there has the unfortunate meeting with Michael Getchis and his "friends" at their establishment.

Sincerely, Alpine Accents
