What you fail to mention is that there is at least a two year contract...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2013

that was signed when the alarm system was put in. The contract also notes a pro-rated early cancellation penalty.

Another thing that's likely in the contract is a "time window" for cancellation and a specified method of doing so. Usually it must be cancelled in writing at least 30 days before the conract is up.  If not, the contract will automatically renew in one year increments and have the same cancellation requirements,

I suspect the system has some sort of motion sensor in addition to the door and window sensors...most do.

When I had the ADT system, it DID include a special motion detector above the front door that would not alarm with pets moving around.  It works VERY well.

"Your bank won't help by stopping payments, guess that depends on your bank also.."

No, it doesn't depend on your bank...they are aware it's a legally binding contract and can't help you. The reason for a contract is to spell out in WRITING, the terms each contract signer is required to follow.

I do NOT work for ADT and never have, in fact I did, but switched to Vivint to receive, in my opinion, a better, easier to use, system.

Be SURE to read the contract and follow ALL its cancellation terms or you WILL see an auto-renewal.
