I received a phone message on 1-12-04 from Adam Kelly (who later I learned was from Merchant's Credit Guide). Wen I returned the call I spoke with someone named Labelle (ext. 775) who informed me that I would receive a letter from a collecting agency if I did not pay my "alledged" bill of 19.96 for a downloaded website (Premium Adult Web Content).

I was told that this unpaid debt would harm my credit rating. I told him/her that I had never received a bill and had no knowledge of this charge, he/she told me that somebody in my household clicked on something that downloaded into another website and that this downloading occured on 1-16-03. He/she stated that this could have been accidental but nevertheless this debt needed to be paid.

I was then asked for my credit card number. When I refused, I was then asked for my banking account number. I refused this as well. I told him/her that I never give out such information over the phone unless I initiated it.

To make a long story short, I received a collection letter from Merchants Credit Guide, Co. on 1-16-04. I did research on the 'net and wow--what (censored)! I called customer service on my long-distance carrier to complain about this and he told me that many people have had problems with pop-up ads and then charged for a service that was not solicited. I wonder how many more companies will be using this means to rip-off the public!
