When you take on the responsibility of a four legged family member then take this into consideration
These animals cannot speak so therefore cannot tell you when they hurt, are sick or need to be held - YOU need to be aware of their needs - that means more than just going potty, food and such
Grow up - vets spend more time in college and graduate school than most Drs do
I love my babies and would do everything within my power to make sure they are safe and healthy
I cannot tell you how many times I have held one of my babies while they passed (and that includes my horses)
Grow up - if you cannot enjoy the four legged babies you do not need one

Kenia, I agree Juan was rude in calling Animal Services because you couldn't afford to pay for his services. But it sounds like you were rude too -- or at least an annoying complainer who expects to receive something for nothing, just because she's so darn special ("I am a single parent"? So is Madonna). No wonder Juan wanted to punish you. Though in hindsight, he would have done better to suggest the cheaper services of any less experienced vets he might know. Juan's not the only vet in town. And anyway, if you couldn't afford it at the moment, most vets take credit cards.

The vets don't care about animals? They care, but they also have to pay for the office, medical equipment, etc. Compared to what similar surgery would cost for a human, $400 is cheap. So if you won't pay to help your dog, I think you're the one who doesn't care about animals.

It's really funny how quickly people jump on the "blame the owner" ban-wagon. Yes, it's sad that the puppy had a rubber-band tied around her ear, but what is even sadder is that an animal doctor would be so consumed with greed that he would not help this poor animal. It's not the dogs fault that the owner did not have the funds to go ahead with the surgery, and the dog was the one that ended up with all the pain. The vet should have absolutely taken care of that dog. People go through hard times, and sometimes are short on cash, that is no reason to go after them. I really hope anyone that can attack this poor woman or anyone else like her ends up in the same situation one day. Karma sucks people. Try having some compassion. The world may just ended up becoming a better place, imagine that.

Just because you were unsuccessful at getting something for nothing does not mean you were ripped off.

It is customary to PAY for services rendered.

The veterinarian was in no way obligated to perform the services for which you had already informed him you had no intention to pay.

He was within his rights to report you to animal control. You had an animal which needed surgery, and you were not providing appropriate care for that animal. Is this the veterinarian's fault? NO!
