I received my amazon chase bill today, 22 Dec 2008, after paying off and closing this account on Nov 2008. To my amazement when I talked to their supervisor - Joseph Michaels, he told me that I still owe finance charges and late fees. Finance charges and late fees after the payoff and closing of my account? To my understanding and deep analysis chase's mediocre phone representatives impact most of its cusumers. I don't know their policy but this is what I know... I payoff my account in full all the time before each due date except the month I have not received my bill. And when I talked to their representative telling him I have not received any bill in the mail in the past 3 months until now after I closed it.
That now I have a past interest charges that was not informed to me upon my request for a full payment amount on Nov 2008. In normal accounting practices, before an account will be paid in full the payment amount should be assessed, not based on the previous month's balance, and once an account is paid in full - it should be paid in full, no other OH BY THE WAY YOU STILL OWE INTEREST AND YOU FORGOT TO PAY THAT INTEREST SO CHASE WILL CHARGE YOU LATE FEE!!!
The bottom line is every consumer have no control monitoring over their account's daily balance even with chase's incompetent representatives, who look at the same data. Their online service is the same paper account you can see but outdated. I already closed my credit card account from chase and working on completely separating myself from them. Also, one late fee (whether their fault) skyrocketed my interest rate even with a history of consistent full payment. This is ridiculous!

I don't kinow with other credit card companies, but with Chase, we are not able to provide a payoff amount. If you had finance charges the month before you closed your account, you were still assessing them on a daily basis until your payment for the full amount is posted to your account. So lets say your statement goes out the 5th of the month with a due date of the 25th. You pay full amount stated on the 15th. Then you will receive a final statement for any finance charges accrued from the 5th until the 15th. Once that is paid, then you will have no futher charges. Hope this helps you.

You were not paid in full

You need to go back and look at the time frame on your statements... you may have paid off your balance at the time but if there were charges made during that previous statement period, the interest may not be assessed until the next one.

this is not any ordinary "loan"

This is a credit card and whether you recieved a bill or not you owe the money. You better believe that they will charge you a late fee and interest. Credit cards are scum and snakes. When you play their game and it is a "game" you will be bit. Pay it off and keep the last payment with a zero balance and keep that forever. That way should they try and collect in five years and yes many do just that, you will have hard proof. Sorry, but you are not dealing with a loan, this is a credit card. It is a debt which you owe. Just pay it and get them out of your life. The next time you want to finance a steak dinner on 32 percent interest over ten years, think again!
