I tried to setup AOL on my computer but after all was finished and done I could never get it to connect. I deleted it from my computer because I could never get it to dial up. Imagine my surprise when 2 months later I was billed for 2 accounts. I called AOL and asked them why I was billed. One idiot kept telling me to start up my AOL and go to billing. I kept telling him I didn't have it on my computer and he told me to go to Start and look under programs. I informed him I was not the idiot. That I had told him 3 times I no longer had or had used AOL. He told me I was rude and hung up on me.
I called back and got a nice lady who asked for my credit card number and returned my payment. It seems everytime I have ever called them and gotten a man he was rude or didn't speak English very well. Why does AOL continue to try to bill people when they don't have accounts....Geez

#5 Consumer Suggestion
Read the Terms of Service, billing section

I know that when I joined AOL, I read the Terms of Service when I joined. The funny thing is, its very straight-forwad and clear to understand. No legal jargon tricks here.
Let me reiterate the "Member Agreement", sub section 7, letter b.:
b. Your payment responsibilities
You must select a payment method to pay AOL for membership fees and all purchases made from AOL. You must give AOL accurate billing and payment information and keep this information up-to-date through AOL Keyword: Billing. AOL will bill you through your Account that is assigned to your primary screen name. You agree to pay AOL for all charges incurred under your Account, including all applicable taxes, fees and surcharges. You authorize AOL to charge your designated payment method for these charges. If AOL does not receive payment from your designated payment method, you agree to pay all amounts due upon demand by AOL.
You automatically gave AOL authorization to charge based on that statement alone. Uninstalling the software has *NO* effect on the subscription. That logic, would be asynchronous to throwing away magazines you receive in subscription in your effort to cancel.
It's time to accept responsibility and learn from our mistakes. I doubt that will happen.

There IS an easy way to explain this.

Why did you get charged two months later? Because you didn't call to cancel, as it clearly states in the Terms of Service that you must.
Whether you chose to read the terms (that is, of course, a legally binding contract) is not the point. The point is that you provided your billing information and electronically signed a contract stating America Online can and will withdraw a monthly payment if you do NOT call to cancel.
Would you sign a car loan without reading it? Sign up for a bank account or credit card without reviewing the terms? Doubtful. Ignorance of the contract you signed is no reason to bash a company for doing what it clearly told you it would do.
Additionally, AOL offers free, 24 hour technical support. You could have called at any time for assistance with your service.
