American Acceptance Aka Continental Credit Aka American Credit ripoff, liars, unfair and deceptive collection practices ripoff fraud business Bowling Green Kentucky

American Acceptance sent me a letter on an old Citibank account owed 9 years ago. I contacted the agency to see about making a settlement via phone. The original debt was for $2,000 which they conveniently increased to $12,000.

I spoke to a lady called K H Kelly and so did my husband who said a judgment was filed against me in Illinois when I was visiting there from Citibank back in 1994. She said she had attorneys working in my state of residence on this case. I asked her for a copy of the judgement and the name of the attorney she was working with and she got very aggravated. After several calls with her she told me she would settle with me if I sent her a posted check for $2,800 on a 2 day delivery and that if I didn't pay it she would go for the full $12,000 and would garnish my bank accounts. I said o.k. but can I have a copy of the judgement? She said I was jack------ her around and that I did not want to pay. I felt very uncomfortable with this arrangement and this person after I sent her they money so I placed a stop payment on the check, closed my account of course advised by an attorney ( even a bankruptcy attorney)who said to write them a letter stating a stop was placed and that I needed written verification, such as the judgment. Two letters later and after a year no response from this company after I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commision. I contacted Citibank and they have no records.
