My daughter had been an inpatient of Singer Island since December 2012 where she completed the first step of becoming clean and sober.  She then decided to stay in Florida and was given several transition facilities to choose and the Singer Island Outpatient and transition home was the one that fit her needs.

The home was wonderful and the monthly rent was $1000 per person.  At one point, there were six girls living all together and they continued to make progress on their 12 step journey.  The staff was top notched, caring to the girls as well as the families who were involved with the care of their loved ones.

Abuptly and without warning on Friday, June 28, 2013 the girls were asked to come to a meeting where they were told the outpatient facility was closing in 3 weeks including the house they lived in.  Follow up was minimal and chaos broke loose as some girls were not able to handle the raw situation placed in front of them.  The staff tried to advise of other transition homes, but it was up to the girls to make the decision to seek out their housing.

This has caused my family much grief and the turmoil has been over the top.

How can a company who is in business to help care for people do this? We are disappointed and very upset.  The feeling of helplessness is greater now then when our child admitted she had a problem.

To a family that has paid their rent weekly, and only to be given a short warning the facility is closing, is bad business. If this was a lease that someone tried to break, I am sure a lawsuit would follow.

Our hearts go out to the clients of the house, and also to the employees that will not have a job in the upcoming days.

I hope Michael Cartwright, the owner/founder of the company, will look deeper than his pockets and realize this choice was not a wise decision.  The success of each businessman can also come to an abrupt end especially when the needs of people are very low on his radar.
