American Assoc of Wartime Vets (AAWV) The AAWV attempted to entice me into placing my mother from her assisted living facility to a nursing home. In the state in which she lives she can stay in the ALF and nursing home care can be brought in. He also worked with a lawyer who he recommended to me and who also recommended to me a financial firm that sells insurance. These three entities put together, the AAWV advisor, the lawer and the financial firm had put together a scheme to get my mother to reinvest some of her assets in insurance policies. I put a stop to it, reported the lawyer who was suspended, reported the financial firm and the AAWV adviser. Nationwide

The AAWF and an associated lawyer and financial/insurance firm work together to manipulate the elderly into reinvesting their assets in insurance products. The associated attorney will write up a trust for the elderly person, and then advise family members to place the elderly family member in a nursing home. The new trust is written so to allow family members become the new owners of the trust and all the elderly's assets.
This then makes the elderly person penniless and puts them under Medicaid (after the five-year lookback, of course, of which I was reminded several times as they tried to force me to make a quick decision).
When I questioned this proposal and arrangement that would have left my mother penniless, I stated my concern and shock. The response from the attorney was "well, you'll have money to pay for her hair and nail care."
This answer was apparently supposed to quell and ease my potential sense of guilt, I suppose but my answer was "why would I care about hair and nail care when I will have left her penniless and under Medicaid??!!"
The financial adviser bid me "goodbye and good riddance" while the attorney continued to work with me because I had paid him a hefty sum to get the process started. Ultimately, I had to admit my mistrust of him, as well so I reported the entire scam to various official and legal entities. The lawyer was temporarily suspended and I ultimately did not get my money back even though I tried several times. I believe the financial/insurance firm has been shut down but I am not sure about the AAWV and its associates.
Nonetheless, from start to finish my questions were answered with vague, cryptic, and circuitous responses, all of which made no sense and did not answer my questions sufficiently. And I asked questions for months because the more I asked, the more I became suspicious.
Anyone with any common sense who sees the controversial posts on the internet in regard to the AAWV will know immediately to stay away from this organization and its representatives. Almost any company will garner a complaint from time to time. However, when a company is referenced as a scam on several websites, it is clear that it's best to walk away from it. They cannot offer you any more than any legitimate financial advisory firm.
It is not hard to find out the VA benefits allowed ceiling...just call the VA. If you are eligible for more, I'm sure the VA will assist in that, as well. I didn't get that far for personal reasons.
