A customer of "AmFam" backed into my car, with minimal trunk damage, on February 2nd. It is now March 12th and my car is still in the shop due to the lack of customer service at "AmFam".
The other party admitted fault and AmFam agreed to the inital estimate amount. After supplemental damage was found, AmFam started dragging their feet. They gave my mechanic the wrong fax number to submit the report and then said they never received it. There goes another week. All the while, no one from AmFam has contacted me regarding any updates or problems. My claims adjuster never answers her phone and has a 5 day turn around to call me back. I always have to call until someone somewhere answers to get updates on why my car is taking so long. Another week later, still no check for the supplemental damage. My car has now moved back in production at the shop due to the stall at insurance. Now, they claim to have issued a check and mailed it two weeks ago?? Lies, deception, bad customer service. Avoid them if at all possible.

They have shown to be just as ruthless with their own policyholders on major homeowner claims.
I assume the loss was to small to go under your own carrier for the deductible amount and you did not need a rental car while yours is in the garage. You may just have tried to be nice. No good deed goes unpunished. Never do a favor for an insurer, they are not your friend when it comes to money, they may be ruthless dogs but they are not your best friend.
California has very good regulations for responses and time triggers to respond to you in 24 -48-72 hours. You should file a Consumer Complaint with the Dept of Insurance and let them do the walking for you, thats what they are there for and paid for with your tax money. But make sure you have an itinerary of all calls and documents by time and date where a response should reasonably be expected. Keep it to the point and pivy. If not you can expect to wait another 90 days to get your claim settled.
They are allowed Bad Behavior as long as consumers look the other way. Their adjusters are already being black balled as untrainable and many carriers will not hire them. This happened to Allstate decades ago where for decades nobody would hire an Allstate adjuster as they were so badly trained with fraud tactics they were deeded untrainable. AMSCAM makes ALLSTATE look good. In fact Allstate is doing well with AMFAM tactics which is helping their marketing.
AMSCAM and their adjusters are in the bottom 3 on the industry list in the industry Hall of Shame.
Your past Insurance Commissioner - Mr Garamendi once stated, " they pay claims as little and as slow as possible." They are a rogue insurer.
