American Financial Benifits Center AFB Bilking Millions from the Gullible and Desperate Rohnert Park California

I, like many people who have student loan debt, received an official looking piece of mail that has the words "Student Loan Department" in the top left hand corner. This is a tactic used by this company and many others like it to trick people into thinking that it is from Federal Student Aid or the Loan Company who hold their student loan(s). When you call the 800 number you are transferred to a representative who claims that he works with Federal Student loan services and for a fee can help you consolidate your student loans, reduce the amount that you owe, and seek Student loan forgiveness for you.

Here is the Scam. They charge $99 a month plus other service fees for something that you can do on your own for absolutely free. At no time during the phone call do they explain this to you unless you ask them or bring it up. They make you think it is "really complicated and difficult and time consuming" to "fill out all the paper work" so they do it for you for a $fee. In reality it takes all of ten minutes to go to the FAFSA website and fill out the information needed and electronically sign to get your student loans consolidated. It does not take months and months to do. And why on earth would you pay a company a monthly fee when you can use that $99+ and apply it towards the balance of your student loan debt?

They very carefully misrepresent themselves to people by making them think that they work with FASFA and Student Loan companies when in reality if you contact FASFA or your student loan provider they will tell you unequivocally that they do NOT in fact work with AFB, AFB in no way affiliated with them, and they strongly advise against using their services because they are actually not benefiting people financially in any way as all that AFB touts that they can help you with can be done absolutely FREE.

Reprehensible business practices. Unethical but unfortunately legal. Make sure to let all your friends and family know that this is a scam and do not send these people a dime of your money.
