American Financial Service Ripoff I gave them a chance to negotiate my credit cards debts while I was refinancing. They said it would take them up to 30 days, I negotiated settlements of 50% in one day and cancelled my account with AFS Bakersfield California

My sole complaint is that they indicated they could negotiate settlements as soon as money was available in our trust fund that they were putting our payments in. After being in the program for 90 days, I decided to refinance our home. Called American Finance up to let them know they needed to start negotiating settlements so that they could be paid out of the refinance and the man said it would take them 30 days. I did not have this time frame, closing on the refinancing was happening in 5 days, which AFS questioned! I ended up calling all my credit cards that were with AFS and succesfully negotiated them at 50% payoff. I called AFS advised I did all the work and cancelled my account. They refunded me $153.00 out of $1019.00 I paid to them telling me that this was their FEE even though they failed to keep up their end of the contract. I can see having to pay some sort of maintenance fee, but this is a lot for someone who is already in financial trouble... they dont explain how easy it is to do what they are doing, if I would of known I could of done it myself I would of never signed up with them!!!! People should be aware, you can do it yourself.
