This company lied to my wife and I, and we ended up paying an additional $930 the day of our move across country.  In the middle of May, I was contacted by Adam Green at the American Moving Group (although that may not be his real name, instead just a name he uses for the company) after entering a moving quote online.  We were actually contacted by about 10-15 moving companies.  After a hard pitch by Adam over the phone (and telling him all of our moving items that were to be moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta) and finding out he was a broker and not actually representing a moving company, my wife and I became hesitant about hiring him and paying a deposit.  We had been warned not to trust moving brokers.  I told Adam we didn't want to pay a deposit when we didn't know what moving company would be delivering our stuff.  Adam then asked me, "Can I trust you?"  I said of course.  He asked that if he found out the moving company, that I would not then contact them directly (I assumed he didn't want me to hire them directly and have his own company lose their cut).  I told him I would not contact the company.  He then told me he was putting me on hold and contacting dispatch.  When he got back on the phone, he told me 'Waters Moving and Storage' would be moving us from Los Angeles to Atlanta.  Adam and I looked up the moving company together while on the phone, checked out their reviews, I confirmed the company with my wife, and we agreed to pay the deposit and hire the American Moving Group.  Adam then said I'd get a phone call from the moving company a few days before our move to tell us the exact day and time our stuff would be getting picked up.

We now move to 4 days before our moving date.  After contacting the city of Los Angeles, they informed us to secure a parking permit for a moving truck along with the space, we needed to contact the office several days before our move.  So I called the American Moving Group several times, and kept getting a voicemail on all numbers.  I then called 'Waters Moving and Storage', told them who I was, and asked if they knew what day they'd be showing up for my move because we had to pay the city for a parking permit.  They had no idea who I was, and when I said I was moving from Los Angeles to Atlanta, they then informed me that they don't do moves that far.  Later that day, Patty from American Moving Company eventually called me back and told me that 'Royal Relocation' would be handling my move from Los Angeles to Atlanta and to call them directly to find out which day they'd be coming.

After reviewing 'Royal Relocation' my wife got scared and upset.  The reviews of the company were awful, and one story after the next involved the company showing up the day of the move and charging more money.  So after a few messages, I eventually got Adam on the phone and told him how we were nervous, scared we might get charged more money, and I also asked about 'Waters Moving and Storage'.  To which he responded, "You called 'Waters Moving and Storage' after I asked you not to?" I explained that I did but only after I couldn't get his company on the phone and telling him I needed to get a parking permit through the city.  He then told me how I broke my promise and that I wasn't an honest individual.  He also told me the woman who answered the phone at 'Waters Moving and Storage' was wrong.  I asked him if the woman was a liar.  He said she doesn't know what she's talking about and probably just started working there a few weeks ago.  Adam then said he could tell I was irritated and there was no more reason for us to be on the phone and wished me luck on my move.  I then explained to him that my wife was still scared about the moving company and what we should do if the company tries to charge us more money the day of the move.  He said we could call him and that he'd be available, and that his calls would all be forwarded to his cell phone from work.

Well, the day of the move came.  Long story short, all the items on our inventory matched exactly (except for a few items that we were able to remove and fit in our car), and when 'Royal Relocation' showed up, even though they had a copy of the inventory in their hand and that all sizes were exact, they went on to tell us we needed to pay an additional $1200 and that using a broker is a bad idea.  When my wife began to cry and I attempted to call Adam several times, we just kept getting his voicemail.  I left messages with him along with Jack (another team member of American Moving Group) and neither of them ever called us back.  And after arguing with 'Royal Relocation' and their phone representative Irene (who said repeatedly, "You can just use your credit card!"), the company eventually knocked off a couple hundred dollars, and we paid them.  At that point we didn't have a choice as we had to be out of our place. Financially, we got the wind knocked out of us.  And naturally, when the company showed up with our furniture in Atlanta, they wanted to charge an extra $500 for a shuttle service because the driver couldn't make the 3rd turn in our apartment complex. I told him that wasn't happening, and several family members helped shuttle our furniture from the moving truck to our apartment unit which was 500 feet away using my own SUV.  The movers were kind enough to help carry the furniture inside.

In closing, my wife and I felt violated using this company, and the experience took an emotional and financial toll on both of us.  My advice is to stay away from "American Moving Group" and you might as well stay away from "Royal Relocation" as well.  When I spoke to Adam Green on the phone and discussed my reservations with him before giving the company my deposit, he told me if he was lying, he wouldn't be able to look his 9 month old baby in the eyes when he laid her down to sleep at night.  Clearly, I was a fool for believing him, but at least my wife and I learned some kind of lesson from all of this.  And for the record, a few days ago I decided to call 'Waters Moving and Storage' and ask if they could move my stuff from Los Angeles to Atlanta.  A very nice man on the phone told me they don't travel that far east, but the company would be happy to refer someone who did.
