On August 29, 2009, I hired a Maryland based moving company, American Moving Services, Inc., headquartered in Ellicott City, MD. I was over charged for the move and forced to pay the bill on-site or they would not complete the move nor release my belongings. Subsequently, I've contacted American Moving Services numerous times in an attempt to get a refund. I've left numerous messages for the manager, Max Preston, over the past 3 weeks and I have not yet received a call back. Now when I call the company the phone goes straight to voice mail as I'm fairly certain they are screening my calls and avoiding my number. Additionally, I've placed numerous calls to the booking company who scheduled the move, Union Movers of DC. Same deal, I've left many messages and have received no return call.

Anyway, long story short. I did some research online and have come to find that "American Moving Services, Inc." has a forfeited entity status and is not in good standing with the state of MD according to the MD Dept of Assessments and Taxation Business Entity Information (Charter/Personal Property) website. The information available online states that American Moving Services, Inc.'s status was forfeited for failure to file property return for 2007. Also, American Moving Services, Inc. is not a BBB accredited business and is misusing the BBB OnLine Reliability Seal without BBB authorization. Please note that the BBB Online Reliability Seal on the company's website doesn't link to anything. This is evidence it is not an authentic seal.

I've contacted the BBB of MD to file a complaint as well has reporting American Moving Service to the State of MD attorney general's office, the taxation department. Additionally, I've registered complaints against this company with the MD motor truck association. Ive also emailed the local media outlets to alert them about American Moving Service so they can warn the public. Alas, I'm at a loss and none of these organizations can really do anything to stop this fraudulent moving company. So unfortunately this shady company continues to rip off unsuspecting customers in the DC metro area.
