Received a call from American Shoppers Network telling me I won 5.5 million dollars and a Mercedes. The man calling asked if I would be able to pay the taxes on the money I won, today. He said taxes would be $30,000.00. He then asked if I had a credit card, if I had a balance and what my credit limit was. He told me if I couldn't afford the $30,000.00 for taxes that he could take care of it by having me use my credit card account. He gave me a Bank of America checking account number and a routing number and told me to call the 800# on the back of my credit card, pay off my balance with the account information that he gave me. He told me to get a confirmation number for the payment and call him right back. He said, I would then need to go to my bank and get $4,500.00 and he was going to tell me where to send the money by way of Western Union. He said this was necessary in order to put a deposit on the taxes that we would owe. He said that after they received the $4,500.00 that we could pay the remaining tax of $25,500.00 after we received our winnings. Red flags were going up all over the place. First of all, he called me on a restricted number. Then he started asking me about my credit card and offering to pay off my credit card balance with their Bank of America checking account. I thought what in the heck does my credit card have to do with winning money? And for what reason would they be paying off my credit card balance when I could do that myself after receiving the money? I'm not stupid, I know that the taxes oweing on that amount of money would be much more than $30,000.00. And we would probably handle that through an attorney when we actually received the money. Obviously this was a scam. Which I confirmed through my bank. I am in the process of contacting our Attorney General. Consumers Beware!!!!!!!
