I used to go to my Chiropractor but after my company switched to Cigna he was out of network and I now had a high deductible.  I suffered not seeing him.  Now I found an out of network specialized chiropractor and have somebody drive me 30 minutes each way.  American Specialty Health, which Cigna hired, is trying to make certain that I can no longer visit a Chiropractor.  This Chiropractor does not participate in insurance & won't call ASH or Cigna.  She did supply all the records from my visits, however.  Each visit detailing every aspect of my problems.  Not good enough says ASH.  But they won't talk to me since I am just the patient.  I cannot get the Chiropractor to call, Cigna called & told me that they were "missing the latest evaluation."  I said, the report was dated on the 5th of Feb and the last visit was the 4th of Feb. how can it not be the latest?  Cigna rep said, "I don't know, I'm just a rep."  I still don't know what info they need, they won't tell me, the Cigna people cannot ell me.  So my Chiropractor emailed me more info, which I faxed.  Cigna says that I must be demonstrating "progress" seeing the Chiropractor.  I say that Chiropractic is unlike regular medical disciplines.  You cannot have a car and think you will never need to tune it up or get it fixed after the first visit to a mechanic.  You must get your teeth cleaned by the dentist.  The detail needed by Ash is ridiculous, nobody can provide it.  They are making it so mysterious, nebulous and confusing that nobody knows what they want.  I ask why does a desk jockey get to decide whether my pain relief is "medically necessary."  ASH's position flies in the face of chronic conditions requiring multiple and continuing treatments.  My only other option is surgery.  If they do not allow this Chiropractic, I will have surgery and it will cost Cigna a boatload more than Chiropractic ever would.  The surgery is iffy anyway, and then I may need more surgery with open skull surgery and a stay in the ICU.  Then I will need therapy to learn to balance and walk all over again.  They should could their blessings that I am trying to manage this with Chiropractic and diet.  I hope the lawsuit is successful.  I see that ASH is expanding, now has multiple offices and multiple states and it is all because the health insurance companies are paying them to curtail costs.  Little does Cigna know that chronic pain doesn't go away and the alternative will be far more costly.  I so wish ASH would go bankrupt.
