I began my adventure with America's Worst back when they advertised glasses or contacts for $39. I signed up for the 5 year plan which was instrumental in getting me contacts for a good price, but that's where the good times end. The exams are a joke...I wasn't even sure if they qualify as exams. Can we say "herd mentality." It's like get 'em in, get 'em out. Then that extra $10 charge for that puff in the eye (glaucoma?)test, that is such a crock.

Half the time the people don't have their acts together, I get one price for one (I wear color contacts) and then one price from someone else. EVERY single time I have ordered replacement contacts, the 2 weeks they promised has ALWAYS been over a month (no lie). It's like I've gotten used to bad treatment...I kept going back!! Unbelievable!! And what's with the high turnover rate. I swear there is always a whole new crew of people every time I come in for those joke exams. I have never had an eye exam that took all of 10 minutes. How do you thoroughly check someones eyes in 10 minutes?

I finally got tired and asked for my prescription so I could go elsewhere. I was told that they couldn't give me the prescription for contacts but they could for glasses (what!??!). One time I asked if they could ship the contacts directly to me...I was told that it would be a $10 charge. I said, let me get this straight, if it comes to you and I drive out of my way to pick it up, it's free (now mind you, they have to ship it somewhere), but if it's shipped to me, it costs? She "went to check on it" and came back and said it could be shipped to me for no charge...which now that I think of it, seems funny that the one other time I asked (back when the price was $39, remember?), I was told that they had to dispense it from the office. Hmmm, why? All I do is pick it up, it's not like they have to watch me put the contacts in. And don't let me get started on the 2 glasses for $59...that is a joke...those frames are the ugliest ones I have seen in life. Guaranteed to get you tagged as a nerd.

I have never been to a place like AmerBeast (you get the picture). I have switched to another eye care place and have received the BEST treatment. I think America's Best should be shut down. They are the worst.

#6 Consumer Comment

I will be a loyal customer until I actually see something fraudulent, not just some personal disatisfaction.

AUTHOR: Juli - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 11, 2004

I have been a customer of America's Best for 9 years. I started going there because of the cost of my contact lenses. I have astigmatism and my contacts were costing me $100 per lens. I had gone to Vista. Wal-Mart, and Lenscrafters and some actual Optometry doctors. All of them wanted more than my insurance would pay, wanted me to come back for multiple visits, etc. I was seen by a licensed Optometrist at Americas Best I saw his license on the wall and read it. I was treated to the exact same exams I had recieved at the other offices but with more courtesy and personal treatment. The cost was unbelievable $25 for my PAIR of contacts and they were the EXACT same brand I had boughten since 7th grade. I have purchased glasses there and gotten 2 for the price I would have spent somewhere else for one. I buy only what I want to buy. No one can make you purchase anything, take some responsibility for your own actions. You have noone to be angry at except yourselves. Grow up! If they give bad service its the location and the people at YOUR location. I have had the same doctor there for all my 9 years. He told me to wear glasses for a year to give my eyes a rest because I wear contacts too much. My eyesight improved because of it. I will be a loyal customer until I actually see something fraudulent, not just some personal disatisfaction.

#5 UPDATE Employee

Use some oommon sence!!

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 05, 2004

I am a employee of America's Best. I can't believe some of the things that I have been reading. People keep bashing the store with the stuff that they are saying but someone needs to tell the patients that they need some common sence.

For instace, people that wear glasses know how much glasses cost. People that come into the store thinking that they can get a bi-focal, progressive lens, or thinner lens for $69.95 need a reality check. If you could get all of that for that price then how in the world would we be in business. Of course it is an additionl charge for those things. Hello!!!! Read the fine print (OFFER INCLUDES SINGLE-VISION LENSES AND SELECT FRAMES. SOME RESTRICTIONS APPLY. ASK FOR DETAILS.)

As for the oomments about our prices being high, that is a lie. We do what is called secret shop every once in a while and call up all the other stores to see what their prices and specials are and they could never touch our prices. The price that you can get for 2 pair at America's Best whether it is for bi-focal, pregressive, or thinner lens is way cheaper then any other place and maybe even half of the price of 1 pair of glasses somewhere else. And not to mention that we have the biggest lab in the U.S.

The extra test that we offer is a visual field test with checks your side vision and the health in the back of your eye which we can't see with the regular machines. Which is a convience for patients because it takes the replacement of dilation. Other places charge anywhere for $40-$80 for that test. So why complain over 14 stupid dollars.

Also, the comment about the glass that are on sale, those glasses are nice. There are nothing wrong with those glasses. They are very fashionable. Tell me where you can get a Gucci frame for $139??? Only here at America's Best. All of these comments are suprising.

Whenever you go to a new eye doctor to get contacts you never leave with a prescription. There are so many factors that you have to consider when you get contacts. There are base curves and diameters to contacts that doesn't fit everyone. First you get a trial pair of contacts. Then you come back in a couple of days for a follow-up visit with the doctor so he can check to make sure that they fit you good and that your able to see out of them well. When you come in for your follow-up and everything checks out ok, that is when we can dispense your contact prescription to you. If you don't come in for a follow-up then we will not give you your contact prescription for your safty and by law. So deal with it.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Read between the lines, I have seen alot of things from both the company and the customers.

I'm and ex-employee of America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses. While working there I have seen alot of things from both the company and the customers. Everyday I went to work for 3 years and I was always amazed by the lack of common sense of a lot of people mainly customers rearding their eyes and prices of contacts and eyeglasses. If I see an ad for 2 pair of eyeglasses for fifty bucks common sense is going to tell me that those are not glasses that I would just die for. Those glasses and prices or not for everyone. How often do we teach our children to read the small print? THE SAME GOES FOR ADULTS,HELLO... Those ads or made towards the people that may not be able to afford glasses but need them very badly. Hello another comnon sense factor. Everyone CANNOT wear the same type of contacts. All eyes are not the same. Oh, and the 10$ is not for the puff of air test. It the other one that checks your side vision to make sure there is no type of blockage.

Now don't get me wrong America's is not the worlds best company by far. It has it's flaws and some incompentent workers, but a lot of the advertisement you see today requires you to READ the small print. And prices do change over the years. If a company stay at one low price from year to year, without changing then it would crash. Last note. Do you send out any mail for free? So why would you think that it would be no cost to anyone else?
