Ameritas representives came to our office to recruit membership in thier dental insurance program. They went through the benifits line by line, and gave us a decent brochure.

It was not until an issue came up that we discovered the program is a sham. My wife had to have a tooth extracted. The dentist office contacted Ameritas and was told that 60% of the extraction cost was covered by them.

When we recieved the statement in the mail, they covered only $66.00 of the $857.00 bill. When I called them, they stated that they do cover 60%, but only of what they allow.

From what I am understanding, this is common place with most medical insurance. The issue I have is that I specifically asked the rep tghis question when we signed up for the insurance, and he stated otherwise.

As an added FYI to this: Dentists are now starting to ask for the costs of the procedures up front, and telling you to get reimbursed from the insurance company. This is happening because of the rule "What we allow".
