Beware of this "mover!" (north county San Diego)

I was supposed to move Thursday 8/9/18 at 9:00 AM. Angel was to be paid $60. an hour, which isn’t cheap, especially since it would have taken several hours for the move even though I only had 15 boxes and NO furniture! I’d called and texted, even spoke to him over the phone to confirm the move as it was a MOVE, which anyone knows you don't reschedule after giving 30 days notice to vacate and I had to move that morning at 9:00 AM to be at my new apartment to sign documents by 11:00 AM.

HE PULLED UP AND IMMEDIATELY MADE SOME EXCUSE ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO PARK IN FRONT OF MY BUILDING. THERE IS PARKING ALL ALONG THE STREET! "NO MONEY FOR METER" HE CLAIMED. HE WAS ACTING LIKE HE PARKED IN FRONT OF AN INS BUILDING. I TOLD HIM, WHY NOT DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK, I'LL RUN UP AND GET MY WALLET AND PAY FOR YOUR PARKING? HE DID AND PULLED UP 3 SPOTS FROM THE ENTRANCE. I SUGGESTED HE BACK UP TO MAKE THE DISTANCE SHORTER--"NO, NO, CAN'T DO THAT!" OMG. I GO TO GET MY WALLET, COME BACK DOWN AND HE'D DRIVEN OFF! THE SOB! HOW CAN YOU DO THAT TO SOMEONE? WHAT A S**T THING TO DO TO A PERSON. DO NOT HIRE HIM! NO WORK ETHICS TO SAY THE LEAST, HOW DO YOU JUST DRIVE OFF WITH SOMEONE STANDING THERE WAITING TO MOVE ALL THEIR POSSESSIONS AND NO ONE TO HELP THEM??? ONLY A TOTAL PIECE OF GARBAGE WOULD DO THIS TO SOMEONE COUNTING ON THEIR HELP AND WHO WAS WILLING TO PAY THEM WHATEVER THEY ASKED.

$60 per Hour Is Cheap...

On the other hand, you chose to use an unlicensed mover to perform the services rendered.  In the advertising picture, you'll see there is no T number on the side of the door where it's supposed to be.  By law in the state of CA, there has to be a T-number on the door for all ads regarding movers.  The T number indicates the person is licensed with the State of CA to perform a move.

I didn't see anything on the door in the ad, nor on the side of the white van.  All you ended up with is a guy who has no obligation to perform a move for you because you had nothing in writing except in texts which mean nothing.  A legit mover in CA would have charged you $120 per hour for 2 guys, regardless of how much you needed to move, although with 15 boxes, it would have taken them maybe 20-30 minutes at origin and 15 minutes at destination.  I mean you would have likely had to pay a 4 hour minimum....but you would have had real licensed movers.

If all you had were 15 boxes, your best solution would have been to go rent a small van and dolley from U-Haul to move everything; with a rolling dolley, nothing is that heavy for you.  Even at 2 hours, the van and dolly would have been cheaper than paying an unlicensed guy $120.  You could have also found a friend, who would have been able to help.
