I also received a statement from the State of Maryland's central collection unit.

The amount due is $5364.45.  I do not owe this amount as I had insurance prior to leaving the state over 10 years ago. I spoke to a representative which stated that I would need to provide proof of insurance from June 9, 2001 to date on a 1969 Ford Falcon which was totaled in 2001. The representative told me that she would run the VIN# to see if the car has been registered since that date. She then told me that I would need to call back on Thursday to check the status or results.

I know that I do not owe this amount and I am in NO WAY even going to consider to pay or make ANY arrangements on paying this trumped up bill. Worst case scenario, I will allow them to report this to my credit and then IMMEDIATELY call to dispute the debt and asked that it is removed from my credit due to being an 'outdated collection' account.

I then googled and searched only to find literally HUNDREDS of people who all once lived in Maryland and left the state 10+ years ago... received the exact same notice. The State of Maryland is pulling out all the stops in attempting to gain revenue. I am definitely interested in a class-action lawsuit should someone ever get one started.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Urgent Assistance Required for Payment Processing

AUTHOR: Gloria - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, March 03, 2025

I have been trying for over four weeks to resolve a billing issue with CCU but have been unsuccessful. I initially reached out to EBD in billing regarding a $115 charge on my credit report, which I later confirmed was mine. Since I had moved away and was no longer employed with Baltimore City Community College (BCCC), I was unaware of the outstanding balance, since I was terminated from my employment, but I wanted the interest to stop on the account which is why I want to pay it and get it over with.

When I spoke with Stephen in billing, I requested the debtor and account number to make the payment. I also reached out to Christina Kuminski (DBM), who informed me that she was not responsible for CCU but provided me with billing unit contact details. Unfortunately, my calls either go unanswered, drop after long hold times, or result in immediate call failures.

On Friday, the 28th, I received an email from Allen in the billing department providing my debtor number (1074001) and account number (29065729). However, when I attempted to make the payment, the information provided was incorrect. I followed up with Allen via email but have yet to receive a response.

However, I received a letter stating that I had received a letter from my bankrutcy attorney stating he had received a call from a Ms. Susan Scanlon, Asst. Attorney General stating I had an outstanding lapse in insurance from a 2000 Ford Taurus, which I no longer had because it had been repossessed in 2003 when I had moved to SC, however, I had insurance in SC on the car when it got repo. I tried reaching out to Ms Scanlon and left several messages, she never responded to the messages or called me back to rectify the issue. I was told from our attorney that a judgement had been placed on me for $2,213.39, however, I have proof from the PA Insurance department, that I had and have coverage on all of my cars through Progressive now, but I was with Branch insurance before switching back to Progressive, which was the original insurance Ihad when I was in Maryland, but I had to switch it to PA insurance with Progressive.

Additionally, just recently, they did the same thing with my husband.  We moved to PA, and still resides there, and we received a letter for the CCU claiming we did not have insurance on our cars and we owed the state $5,155 on one of our cars and $2,355.41 on the other car. Both cars were covered by the state we lived in.

Best regards,
