I was asked to confirm my email address when I signed up for an on-line newsletter from a business or on-line publication/magazine. I can't know for sure (if this is actually how it happened) as I did some shopping on-line and signed up for emails relating to computer maintence all within a couple days. Thinking this was a legimate request to stop spam or joke registrations, I complied. Within a couple of days a charge appeared on one of my credit card for $14.95 compliments of AP9 Shopping Essentials in Norwalk, CN. I did not knowing sign up for this shopping service nor do I know how they got my credit card number. I will now read the fine print or watch for boxes automatically checked before I return a confirmation email, etc.. Beware as this company's MO is very sneaky. Submit a dispute to your credit card company ASAP if you see a non-reguested charge from AP9 Shopping Essentials. What's the difference between this and fraud?
