Aptora...makers of the Total Office Manager software package will sell you an extremely expensive software system and then require you to spend thousands of dollars in addition to show you how to use their system.

My small business expanded into the HVAC business in 2007 and wanted a software system that would be tailor made for our industry. Aptora touts their system as being the solution. After consulting with BERNIE, we were convinced that Total Office Manager would be that solution. We negotiated the terms and ended up paying close to $12000-$13,000 for the total package.

After receiving the package and installing the software, it became clear to me that this system was not so easy to use. I am in no way computer or software illiterate, quite the contrary. I am well versed in computers, software, IT, networking, and all technical aspects of computer hardware and software.

We immediately contacted BERNIE to convey our displeasure with the complexity of this system. He offered me training for an additional $599, or $2000 for a year of support and updates. Why would I need or want to spend hundreds or thousands more for a package that I just spent $12,000 for?

As the conversation progressed with BERNIE, the ONLY solution he provided to me came at a price. A hefty one. Every single option he offered was to take more of my money and still not guarantee any result. Sounds like a real RIPOFF to me!

So now I am out thousands upon thousands of dollars and have a Total "Worthless" Office Manager. BEWARE!!

Long time happy user

I purchased Aptora / TOM a year after abandining a service management program that was truly ineffective.

That was quite a few years (almost 10) ago. I'm only writing this because I am in the process or recommending the program to another and ran across this website.

As a very powerful program, TOM does take time to understand, implement, start to get familiar with, make use of and further institute the basic and advanced training needed and finally (about) fully implement. The "about" comment is because the program is so very powerful, effective and far reaching, I personally am unable to make entire use of the entire program! I'm an average guy, with an above average staff, and use the program quite well. 

It does everything a well run, best practices, financialy savvy company would want!

But like any powerful software, it also takes time, effort, patience, practice, training and... repeat it all again and practice to use it to the potential it has.

 

I remain pleased with it's use and strengths to help run my business.

I completely disagree sinc I worked hand and hand with Aptora and implemented Total Office Manager at a security installation and service company I used to work for and they always helped me with the implementation and even afterwards when I needed to understand the program and resolve issues.

Great Company and Software

I am a long time user of Aptora and was looking up their website. When I saw this report, I almost fell over.

I can tell you that I have been using their software for several years and it has been bullet proof. It actually does all of the things that it says it does. Imagine that for a concept! I also want to say that when we have technical-support questions, they have set the gold standard for being responsive. Keep in mind, I am a plumber here - I have kept these people on the phone for hours. I recently upgraded to their mobile software and we are blown away at the depth of it's functionality. This is coming from a guy that spent 2 years researching mobile software solutions for 10 field technicians. Their mobile application has no monthly fee after you buy the software - you are good to go. Not so with all of the other companies. Their accounting is top notch and it is completely geared for Services Companies. I can see my customers' info when the phone rings, I can track daily sales, new customers we get each day, who my top techs are, and who the worst are :) So I can reward the best and talk to the other guys. Now that we have the mobile, my techs can look up a customer's history right on the iPad. How powerful is that!? Again, I am still in disbelief of this guy's review of a product that I consider to have out-performed my expectations at every step. Thanks Aptora!  -Jim Harper

James Leichter has contacted me personally and I stand corrected. I was lied to by others, for unknown reasons, and I see that Mr. Leichter DOES care about his customers and that he DOES want to help. Some mis-communication turned into a big issue that is being resolved by the folks at Aptora. I hate that it went as far as what it did and I realize that James is truly a business man that cares about his company and his customers. THANK YOU JAMES LEICHTER for your thoughts, your time, and your help. The program DOES do everything that is advertised and it is a real time saver, obviously designed by a man that is strict on efficiency and character, for both himself and his company. Looking forward to working with them more!

This report is accurate. James Leichter is a LIAR. Aptora and T.O.M. is nothing more than a software scam and a fake. I wish I had listened to quickbooks and even to the guys from airtime 500 about this B.S. software. Bernie is a liar. Tech support lies. We were told that our computers, our software, and our business were a "PERFECT FIT" for Aptora. Now after we have spent over $10,000 we have a computer program that is constantly crashing. We cannot do some of the stuff that we were told we could, and we have been told that it is because of our computers, our existing software, and my secretary's incompetance. As "previous business owners and techs" I would think that their services, and their attitudes would be much better and they would want to help us more. I guess that this is probably why a competitor of James Leichter (when he actually ran a business) laughs about him. A man was a tech for a couple years, got fired because he couldn't hack the work, started his own business (went out of business after a couple years) and then decided to make a software program. Oh how I wish I had known all of this last fall when I was convinced to buy the product. My RIP-OFF REPORT is that the whole company, from the owner, to the salesmen, to the tech, and to the product, is a total lie and a total scam. Until I have this issue resolved, I will continue to report on here and on any other site I can find how much of a total lie this whole scam is.

Thank you James Leichter!!

After submitting this rip-off report, the President of Aptora contacted me in an effort to resolve my issue. He was very instrumental in getting me to the point that I had initially expected.

I would like to say thank you to James for his genuine interest in my concerns and his desire and willingness to propose a solution to my issues.

I sincerely ask anyone who comes across this report to consider how many times we have problems or issues with companies we do business with. I think I speak for most when I say that it is fairly common these days to hit brick wall after brick wall when attempting to gain resolution from many companies. IT IS THE COMPANIES WHO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO RESOLVE THESE ISSUES WHO DESERVE OUR HIGHEST LOYALTY.

I regret not giving Aptora (James) an opportunity to make the wrong I felt...right. We, as a society, are so quick to plaster negative comments about companies with whom we have done business with. Don't misunderstand me, some are deserving of that negative press as there are just simply too many shady businesspeople "out there" waiting to swindle and cheat you. Then there are truly good companies, with truly good people behind them that for one reason or another were not able to satisfy you first time around. We are all human, and bound to error and misinterpretation. We are easily offended these days, and are so willing to take revenge on people who do not deserve that. Just because we are not happy with the outcome does not automatically mean that we were wronged. Maybe our expectations were unrealistic in the first place.

I conclude by saying that Aptora did NOT deserve the negative posting that I placed on this site and it is unfortunate to me that I can not REMOVE it completely. What I can say though is they not only deserve my business, but they deserve yours too!

I am James Leichter and Im the President of Aptora. We make Total Office Manager. We are contractors that got into the business of creating software. We want all of our clients to be happy and we work very hard to provide the very best product and service we can.

Many of our clients tell us that Total Office Manager is relatively easy to use. We have very small and very large companies using it. In my personal opinion, there is no enterprise level accounting software that is actually easy to use. I do believe we offer users the tools that they need to use the software efficiently.

Total Office Manager is a full blown enterprise level accounting program. The intended user is someone who is trained and experienced using modern Windows accounting software. We try to educate prospects on how challenging switching software can be. Thats why we provide comprehensive training, technical support, and self help options.

Each Total Office manager purchase includes at least five hours of personal (one-on-one) training. Five additional hours of training may be purchased for under $469.

Owners also receive one year of unlimited toll free telephone and email technical support. New versions, enhancements, and bug fixes are free for the first year. After the first year, users can renew their support for another year. There are several plans available but the VIP plan (everything included, unlimited, red carpet treatment) is just $166.58 per month.

There is a full set of training videos that users can download. Total Office Manager has a huge searchable help system that is context sensitive (each form is explained). There is a 390 page color user manual and users may print additional copies at no charge.

We offer free web based seminars from time to time. We have an internet based discussion area and a fully indexed knowledgebase.

Powerful software can be a real challenge to learn and use. First and foremost, we are contractors. We know that the process can be a little overwhelming because weve been there. Aptora is dedicated to making the use of Total Office Manager as easy as we reasonably can.
