Late last month we discovered that the Aquasana water filter that was under our kitchen sink had sprung a leak on its own after working well for several years. The leak had apparently been going on for several weeks and when we pulled out the cabinet flooring, it was obvious that the particle board subfloor had soaked up a lot of water and was ruined. What was also obvious was that at the very least, the cabinets would have to all come out because of mold concerns. This all started the same week that Joni found out she had to have emergency spinal surgery.

After calling the company, furious that our kitchen had basically been ruined by a $129 filter, I finally was referred to Aaron Little, Sales Director for Aquasana. After sending Aaron Little around 40 good quality photos of the damage, Aquasana agreed that it was their fault and told us to get two estimates for repair. We got one estimate from Home Depot for replacing the cabinets if they couldn't be saved, with an almost exact duplicate set of cabinets, and replacing the subfloor and vinyl floor covering. We got another estimate (again on the explicit advice of Aquasana) from a general contractor, to replace the floor and to pull the old cabinets out, sand them down inside and seal them against mold and then re-install them. These two estimates were only $400 apart. The Home Depot estimate was $8,390 with new cabinets and the general contractor's estimate for saving our old cabinets was $7,981.

After promising us that they would restore our kitchen to normal, after all the work of making appointments for estimates, waiting for people to show up, blasting our under-cabinets with an infrared heater for days, numerous emails, faxes, phone calls, lugging around 2.5 gallon containers of water from the store, the smell of mold in the air, after all this we received a check from Aquasana for a fraction of the real damages. They sent us a check for $3000 which won't begin to cover the damages caused by their product. They admitted it was their fault and then said that both of the estimates were too high and that was all they were going to pay.

We then sent three copies of a Final Demand for Payment by certified mail to Aaron Little, Sales Director; Brian Luenser, Director of Finance; and Todd Bartee, Chief Executive Officer. The letters were recieved but never acknowledged or answered. Their $3,000 check remains uncashed because we cannot afford to cover the other $5,000.

This is the first home either of us has ever owned and we are struggling to make ends meet as it is. We are very disappointed and frustrated that after admitting fault and assuring us they would restore our kitchen, that Aquasana has reneged on its word and responsibility.

As of Wednesday, 4/25/12, the issue involving Aquasana has been resolved to our satisfaction.

Aquasana has agreed to settle with us for an additional $4,981.85. This amount, in addition to the $3,000.00 already received by us, is a total of $7,981.85, the amount of the quotation we obtained from a local contractor at Aquasana's request to remediate damages to our kitchen.
