My girlfriend was called by Area Circulation and she agreed to receive magazines from the company for $5.00 per month. She thought it sounded good, so she agreed. Next thing you know, we are being billed $49.95 monthly and receiving about 15-30 different magazines weekly!

When we discovered what was happening, we of course freaked out and called the number on the bill to cancel. We were told that we could not cancel, and they offered to lower the payment to $29.95 per month. I refused this offer, and demanded that Area Circulation cancel the subscription, but they refused and the agent actually hung up on me when I insisted that they cancel the subscription immediately.

So I did some research. There is a way to cancel. You have to write a couple simple letters, and there are laws that protect consumers like me and my girlfriend from companies like Area Circulation.

I just put up a web site to help other people cancel. It took some research on my part, but I am willing to share the information in order to help put Area Circulation out of business.

Visit the site and send us an email - we can give you information about the stategy we used - it works very well and is really pretty simple.

We even got a refund for some of the money that Area Circulation billed us for!! Let's work together and take Area Circulation off the map!

The SCAM

AUTHOR: Ginger - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 14, 2010

Area Circulation called me a couple of years ago, I don't even know how they got my phone number, but they called me and offered me two free round tickets to somewhere, I can't remember where, and said the hotel and plane tickets and everything would be taken care of, and that all I had to do was order a couple of magazines with a year subscription, and it would only be a couple hundred dollars for the year, only about 8 dollars per magazine per month, or something like that. This was over two years ago. So I gave them all of my information, and started getting my magazines shortly after that, but what I was really waiting for was the round trip tickets, which I have never received after over 2 years! But I kind of forgot about it, and just kept receiving magazines, which was fine, except I somehow got signed up for all these other magazines and was receiving 2 or 3 magazines per DAY! I called them and they apologized and got me back down to only my selected magazines. All was fine, until they called me and asked me to pay the remainder of the balance on the account, and I agreed to do so and closed the account. So I thought everything was all paid off, until they called me today, asking me to pay them over $800 for my second account that I had apparently opened when I finished paying off the first account, the one that I had closed, and apparenly it's only been 9 months since I opened the second account and they said I hadn't been paying them and I now owed them the full balance of the account. First of all, I knew it was a scam after the first time, there was no way in hell that I would have ever opened another account! Second of all, if my account was overdrawn, why hadn't they tried to contact me. They said they had tried, and I said they should have left a message, but then they preceeded to tell me that they are not allowed to leave voicemails! Such bullshit! You couldn't pay me enough money in this world to ever start an account with this company! This is the biggest bunch of bullshit that I've ever heard about or had to deal with!! This company is a scam, BEWARE!! I will tell everyone that this company is a HUGE scam loud and clear, for the rest of my life, until Area Circulation is rotting in the grave!

I'll be sending you an email here shortly, I would like to cancel as well and I, like you, have been told by this company that I can't cancel. I hate being lied to and I will be implementing any and all solutions you give me for correcting this.

Tell me something though, before this goes any further. Is it or is it not false representation of facts if a supervisor from a company who tells you that you are not in a contract then tells you that you are contractually obligated? It would seem as if many people commit, like me, thinking that you can cancel at any time.

I will leave with this, I hate being lied to, and this company seems to have lied to me, on numerous occasions.

Call them and make a lawyer threat and they have to cancel your service. At that point I would request a full refund. Don't let them tell you anything else about doing a service inquiry or anything that they may offer. You want a full refund by credit card.
