To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Dawn. I am writing this letter because I feel that I have not only been treated unfairly in addition to being taking advantage of with out any kind of an explanation.
This all started after canceling my credit card through Aria Visa, then Providian Visa, then again changed its name to Smart Card, and lastly changed it's name to Emerge Mastercard.
I have been a cardholder of this company for over 5 years. The only reason I applied for the card was because my credit was in poor condition at the time. Providian Visa approved me with a $300.00 limit at an interest rate of 18.99 %.
I accepted this rate because I needed to establish credit and keep it in good status. I made timely payments every month usually over the minimum payment and they increased my limit to $2600.00.
In September of 2002 I ran into some problems with my sister in law stealing mail addressed to my self and notified the police department and was advised to get a post office box.
After I obtained a post office box I notified AKA Aria/AKA Providian/AKA Smart Card AKA Emerge Mastercard, not only verbally but also via the telephone and gave them the new billing address.
When I went online to obtain my balance information I received an e-mail message from Providian that I had missed a payment. I then made the necessary changes on line in addition I called yet again and gave them my new address and still the following month never received the statement.
I called and inquired the address that was in their computer system to find that they never updated the address. The rep then assured me that she had in-fact this time made the necessary address changes and I began to receive my statements again January of 2003. The bills were not going to the correct address for over 4 months after they assured me that they had the correct billing information.
When I received my next statement in January I saw that the interest rate jumped drastically from 18.99% to a whooping 29.99%. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw this.
I Immediately I then called Providian/ Smart Card/ emerge and told them to cancel and not allow anymore charges to accrue immediately. I cut up the card and asked them if they wanted me to send it back to them. I was told that it was not necessary and to just discard it.
7 Days before the due date my bill arrived I called Providian/Smart Card once again to make my payment on the account to find out that I was no longer dealing with Providian that my account was transferred to a company by the name of Emerge Master Card.
Days later I received a credit card in the mail that I did not request or want. I tried calling Emerge and got nowhere.
I even tried to get an updated balance on my account to begin making payment arrangements minus the ludicris interest rate that they never made me aware on the phone or in writing they handled my call by transferring me from 1 rep to the next.
I spoke to a rep by the name of Krista, and a Molly on 1/13/03, a Minnie 1/13/03, a Stan 1/13/03, and a rude rep by the name of Steve on 1/27/03 who refused to let me speak with the supervisor. When I asked to speak with the supervisor on other ocuations I was always told that there was not a super available.
The customer service for this company has been an absolute nightmare. What I am trying to get accomplished here is having the interest rate deducted back, all finance charges dropped due to not sending the bills to the new billing address in a timely manor and get my bill paid off as Ive asked for this help from Emerge and was never assisted or given the decency of a call or even a letter back from the several letters I have addressed to both Providian/ Smart Card and Emerge.
I dont feel that I should be responsible for Emerges errors of not updating the current address information, or should I be responsible for a credit card by them that I never activated or asked to have sent.
I would like to see that all late fees and over the limit feesand finance charges are recalculated or waived for all the aggravation and for what they have done to my credit. This isn't fair and the company isn't legitiment obviously.
Legitimate credit card companies don't do this Emerge sent the card after I closed the account with Providian/ Smart Card. Emerge sent the card over the limit when they made changes and decided not to make me the card holder aware of changes.
These charges are ludicrous. Ive never had a problem making my payments and they were always made in a timely manor and never late. I cant believe that this is how they would treat a loyal customer.

My account has been paid in full for over a year and now I am being notified that I owe for a yearly card rate
AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, January 09, 2005
I once was the holder of an Aria Visa Card. This one was sold to Emerge and the interest rates continued to rise. My account has been paid in full for over a year and now I am being notified that I owe for a yearly card rate and a late fee.
I notified them when my card was paid in full that I no longer wanted their card, cut it up, sent it to them and now this. I do not posses their card and I will not pay their yearly fee or any late charges.
