The owner Sandy Mclain is highly uncooperative with this problem that I had with the puppy I bought from them. The dog cost me $600, with the assurance that this puppy was breeding quality. I thought that spending a good amount on a dog would assure the fact that I would be getting a good quality dog.
When I got home, the puppy had kennel cough and it cost me $75 to get it taken care of. The vet. told me this was because of the living conditions the puppy was at. To this day, the puppy still has nasal problems. Then, on top of the other things, the AKC papers come back and this dogs entire bloodlines consist of inbreeding. This is something I immediately made Sandy, the owner, aware of to no help. She told me that she thought the practice of inbreeding was "OK" and that she would offer nothing to me for my losses.
I bought this puppy from this company in hopes to breed it with my other champion bloodline dog. This is something that I wont do now because of the horrible bloodlines from the puppies past. I hope this helps you in making your decison to buy from this poor run, low quality, unhelpful company.

Arky Barky purchasers

I would like to know why people who have bought dogs and other animals at Arky Barky are complaining. I do not work for Arky Barky, but am an individual who believes that people should buy dogs and other animals from animal shelters. There are too many dogs without homes. I found a beautiful schnauzer from an animal shelter. Why aren't you people adopting from animal shelters?? In my opinion, by purchasing animals at puppy mills, you are contributing to the problem of puppy mills. These puppy mills should be stopped. The Humane Society of the United States and PETA are working on stopping these puppy mills. In my opinion, you, as individuals, should be helping them stop this by not buying animals at places that sell dogs and other animals. HELP BE THE SOLUTION AND NOT THE PROBLEM!!! Don't buy animals from animal businesses, but from animal shelters!!!!

SPREAD THE TRUTH

As sad and unfortunate as these stories are, they are not at all uncommon. Please educate yourself on these kinds of businesses. In our state (AR) especially, the chances these dogs are coming from puppy mills and other places that do not put the animals' health or well-being first, are staggering. No wonder so many of these dogs are sickly or have undisclosed genetic disorders. Check out prisonersofgreed.org to learn more about where Arky Barky's puppies come from. And spread the word. The animals need us. 3 MILLION SHELTER DOGS AND CATS ARE KILLED EVERY YEAR. (67 Pit Bull Terriers ALONE were euthanized at Little Rock Animal Services JUST in the month of March 2008!) Don't breed or buy while shelter pets die!

NOW VERY WORRIED ABOUT MY PUPPY PURCHASED FROM ARKY BARKY
AUTHOR: Libby - (U.S.A.)

I bought a snorkie (1/2 yorkie, 1/2 mini. schnauzer) from Arky Barky in November. I am absolutely in love with her! Although, after reading some of these complaints, I'm worried.
Sophie (my snorkie)was coughing violently when I first got her. When I questioned the veterinarian, he said it was from getting her kennel cough shot. He told me that she might have attained a small strain of the virus from the vaccine, but that it would go away shortly. I trusted him, at the time. Then, when I thought about it, I realized that the vet. I had gone to was basically forced upon me by the owner of Arky Barky. Otherwise, the shots weren't free. SO, I went to him.
The cough eventually went away, but she has some other problems. She has two toenails on each of her back feet and frequently vomits. In fact, she has a vet. appointment with a different doctor tomorrow about these problems. Should I be worried? Either way, I will NEVER buy another puppy from Arky Barky and I will spread the word to others. Also, if something serious is wrong with my Sophie, I will do EVERYTHING in my power to put her out of business!

ARKY BARKY... Not the best Choice for Purebreds
AUTHOR: Terry - (U.S.A.)

In response to the complaint David in Fayetteville has made I can offer this insight. I was a breeder for 15 years in the Little Rock area and have met Sandy McLain on more than a dozen occasions. I can confirm that she does have a complicated and irrational personality, at times cocky and irritating.
Sandy contacted me several times trying to purchase litters of purebred pups from my kennel promising to pay me top dollar for the entire lot. Every time it came down to settling up, the delivery date approaches, Sandy would LOW BALL me, trying to offer as little as $75 for each of my pups. She claimed they had flaws and we're possibly inbred and doubting that they were purebred. I found her accusations and offer to be highly insulting. I have never sold her a single pup and will never. She did the same thing to another breeder friend of mine recently, (so I guess old habits die hard.)
None of my adult breeding stock are related in any way, so the possibility of inbreeding was zero. 2/3 of my stock are champion bloodlined, so the matter of flaws was not valid. Now remember she offered me $75 for each pup, she resells the same pup for $600 to $800. You do the math, that's a $525 to $725 profit per pup. Big payoff for cold calling on persons listing their pups in the "PETS FOR SALE" section of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette Classifieds isn't it folks.
That's right folks, you can get the same dog she'll sell you, from the same people she's going to buy it from. Just get the newspaper and save yourself some money. Now I'm all for making a buck here and there, but Sandy has no conscience.
Oh, and on the matter of inbred pups, one of my newest friends bought a dachshund from Arky Barky a few years ago. It was diagnosed with epilepsy a month after she bought it. Sandy would not take it back, nor pay for any of the vet bills. And yes,,,, it was a line bred pup. Wish I knew them a few years ealier so i could have saved them the headache. BUYERS BEWARE, NOT SORRY LATER

I have bought a lhasa pup from Arky Barkys in March 2005. I wasn't dissappointed, though. They allowed us to put down a low deposit for him (cost $600) and pay him off until he was paid in full. We came to see him everyday and they were very nice and helpful in doing that. One of the ladies even offered to groom him if we ever needed it. He's had all his vet checks and had NO problems.

Reporting to AKC on "Inbreeding"

They call it "line breeding" and suggest that dogs be bred within 4 generations of each other barring brother and sister, as THAT pairing produces undesirable results. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it. Certainly not something I agree with, but there it is.

Report the Breeder

If you recently purchased this puppy and your vet is willing to verify that the puppy was sick when purchased, contact the District Attorney in the county where the puppy was purchased and file a complaint. No matter when you bought the puppy, you need to contact the AKC and ask them when they started approving inbred blood lines. If these are NOT AKC papers, but a forgery of some type, you need to contact the District Attorney and report that as well. You may not get your money back, but you may be able to stop this person from breeding.
