I networked with the people from the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival some years back. I was asked to submit my next film project to them and they would program it. I spent several years conceiving and producing a feature length art-house project specifically for this festival. I paid the submission fee and everything and they ultimately rejected it. Not only did they reject it, but the head of the festival, JOSEPH SHAHADI sent me a bunch of e-mails reminding me that it had been resoundingly rejected - as if gloating about it.
The festival insists that it was Film as Art - but time and time again it's clear that they're only interested in Film as Entertainment. They want red carpet culture - not true art.
The name and mission statement of this festival is misleading. If they ever invite you to submit your next work, make sure to get a fee waiver.
