ASAP Plumbing of San Antonio wanted to charge me over $1,000 to install a few dollars worth of parts. They completely wrecked my process with my home warranty company who had already agreed to cover the replacement of my hot water heater. Incidentally, these parts were not under the house, enclosed in a wall, or in the attic. They were basically screw-on parts that are easily accessable without obstruction in my garage. I would have been happy to pay even $200 (which would still be an almost 1000 percent markup on the parts) in labor just to get it done.They maintained they couldn't do the job without replacing these parts because of the codes in TX. The two parts needed to bring it up to code were a drip leg and a vacuum breaker - a combined parts cost of around $20 at the local plumbing supply (I checked). They started trying to upsell me and pad the price from the first of the process. It all had a very sleazy feel.
