Asset Recovery Associates, Inc. ARA They tried to collect on a non existing account. Lombard Illinois

They told me that I had an outstanding account with Citibank.  A mastercard credit card. It hadn't been paid and it was now showing over $9,000 including interest.  They said if I paid the main balance (without the interest) they could settle the account and nothing would go on my credit record.

They knew my bank accounts, my social security number, date of birth and addresses of where I had lived for the last 20 years.  They knew when I was able to start building my credit.  They knew my BofA credit card number.  Which I have since cancelled.  She talked so fast that she made me think maybe I really had forgotten that I had an account with Citibank and that I had just forgotten.  She claimed that Citibank had sent me letters of collection and that they had also sent me letters trying to collect this debt.  I said I had not ever received any letters.  She then asked if someone in the family might have been using this card and getting the mail.  This continued in this same format making me think maybe I had forgotten about it.  I am 73 years old, but I knew I had never had a Citibank Mastercard, but I had no way of convincing her.

After all this and I hung up, I called Citibank and they told me that  I had never had an account at their banks.

I have filed a police report with my local police dept.  They gave me the FBI's website address and said since it is across state lines, they would be the one to handle all of it.  So I'm going to go to their website and fill out whatever they need to know to stop this craziness.

I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.  They make you question your own mind and memory.
