I am repeatedly getting letters for a paid debt. I contacted Assetcare about a debt for a letter I received for 137.98. The lady on the telephone told me I could settle the debt for 91.97..I Immediately sent the check. It being over the christmas holidays ,I'm sure it was slower than normal. They aknowledged receiving this, However said It is considered a payment. A PAYMENT!!!...Liars...And if it was a payment why was it never deucted from the amount

You did all the wrong things - now you have to deal with it.

1st mistake - TALKING TO THEM AT ALL All communications in writing.

2nd mistake - NOT TAKING THE TIME TO LEARN YOUR RIGHTS www.ftc.gov - look at Fair Debt Collection Practces Act

3rd mistake - sending them money on a debt you did not owe.
