Parking lot shared by Texas Showdown and Taos Cooperative.

Towing sign says "Permit Parking only in designated spots spaces". Some Spaces designated for "Taos Coorperative". I parked in a spot that was not designated as anything, and got towed by assured for parking in a Taos Cooperative spot.

According to Them and Taos, all spots after the sign are Taos parking, but the sign is misleading, since it says that permit is required only is designated spots.

After talking to manager at the Texas Showdown, he said this has been amn issue for a while. Texas showdown has offered Taos to paint the undesignated spots so that their customers do not get towed, but Taos has refused. Taos/Assured towing also ripped down a banner put up by Texas showdown warning customers of parking behind the misleading sign.

After going to the towing company and paying for the car, the towing driver threatened to lock us in the towing area for 1 hour since 2 of us went in to get my car. He said this was legal since tey can take upto 1 hour to process paperwork.

Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity

AUTHOR: Pat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2008

First, I know of this parking facility and the history of the continuing illegal towing issues that occur everyday. Secondly, there is not on parking space marked in accordance to State Law, being which a designated parking space in an otherwise restricted area must be marked in the front and back of those spaces. Now, we know, for a fact, that Assured Towing posted those red and white towing signs, a "criminal" violation of State Law, because it's the parking facility's responsibility to make sure their parking facility is in full compliance the Texas Towing Act before any vehicle can be towed.

This being said, I highly recommend to anyone who has been towed from parking lot, that they call the Austin Police Department at 512-974-5000 and file an offense report for an illegal tow to pursue criminal charges against Assured' drivers and whoever gave then written permission to tow.

In similar cases as these, we have seen the Criminal Courts mandate restitution of the fees paid to retrieve the vehicle, in addition to incarceration or probation.

When I refer to "we", this is texastowingcompliance.com, a nonprofit that works with victims of illegal towing to recover loss monies.
