on friday, the 30th of november I received a phone call, telling me that I won a trip to florida for 4 peoples to go to disnay land with a cruise (I don't remember all the details of the cruise). They told me that the total cost is normaly $5000 but I will only have to pay $998 If I wich to accept this wonderfull trip. They told me they will send me the tickets within 10 or 15 days, that I have 18 monthes to choose the date of my trip but I just have to advise them 45 days befor the trip.
Then they asked me the detail of my credit card for security but I refuse to give them the numbers at the back of my credit card.
On monday the 3rd I saw an e mail confirmation (sent on the 1st of december) telling : thank you for your purchase! see under their exact answer :
Purchase Information
You have authorized the following to billed to the provided credit card.
Date: 11/30/2007 1:51:09 PM
Credit Card: ****************
Approval #: 1639886181
Amount Billed: 998.00
You have purchased our ACT62-998 package.
On first : I never made any purchase, they phoned me to tell me that I won a trip
on second : I never gave them all my credit card details
on third : If they could took $998 on my bank account it means they have been searching to find out the details on the back of my credit card. How do you call this ???
Fortunalty, I phoned to my bank on friday night to ask them If it was dangerous that I gave the details on the front of my credit card. They told me that the best to do was to block my credit card, and this is what I did straight away. I will have more informations tomorrow and if they tried to take $998.00 on my bank account I will bring an action against astar.
Tell me what I can do to have a quick reaction.
Thank you;
sandrine

ASTAR - I just don't believe you are playing fair
AUTHOR: Kylie - (Australia)

I have read all the information and yes I seem to be ripped off as well. If you had recorded ALL the conversation from the very start - things would be sooooo much clearer but you only use the recorder when the victim is completely worn down or fooled into thinking something else is happening. If you really are so legit - you would have a proper webite with a valid e-mail address and phone numbers that actually work. Anyone wanting people to do business with them usually provide plenty of ways to make contact - BUT I found Astar very hard to reach. Also it's total rubbish about not being told about winning a prize. I had a pop up stating I had WON a trip and I had to choose where I would like to go!!!! Then came the confirmation call - and the person said I had won a "free trip" When I received the do not reply e-mail confirmation it stated I was required to attend a Timeshare presentation. At no time was this ever ever mentioned!! This is why the WHOLE conversation should have been recorded - maybe you need to start doing this.
I am pretty sure ALL the people I have read about are not making these claims against Astar up. Clean up your act - be upfront about the discounted holiday & time share presentation and if you say refund for any reason after 30 days - give the refund. You took the money so fast - give it back just as fast!!

One thing that was stated by the Astar Travel Co. rep that was quite wierd. "If some one were to steal your credit card, they couldn't use it without that code"
DUH! The code is on the back of the card!!!! So Of course they could use it!

It makes me sick seeing where former employees have posted on here defending Astar.
We don't want the 3 digit number on the back of the card to make sure your holding the card, we want the three digit number to make sure you CAN'T call the bank and tell them your card number was stolen so you can cancel the trip and get a refund!! The 3 digit number protects ASTAR from having to refund your money.
Astar has a merchant account with visa and mastercard, which basically means that they are set up to hit your credit card right away.

Here is the definition of the word I used:
bull /bl/
noun Slang.
1. exaggerations; lies; nonsense.
I said that because that is exactly what all these reports on here contain, they do nothing but make our company look bad... all of these reports are also only on here for the simple fact that the people don't know how to ask questions. In my opinion not asking as many questions as you need to, to understand what is going on, is a lot more immature than my word choice.....What are you cautioning people about?? Nothing... because our company did nothing wrong...you should have asked questions if you didn't understand...
and Bal....you suffered?? ...you want to talk about poor word choice...okay here is the exact definition of the word you just used...
suffer (sf'r)
v. suffered, suffering, suffers
1. To feel pain or distress; sustain loss, injury, harm, or punishment.
2. To tolerate or endure evil, injury, pain, or death.
3. To appear at a disadvantage
4. To undergo or sustain (something painful, injurious, or unpleasant)
Nothing happened to you Bal, and you MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT SUFFER..you simply cancelled a wonderful vacation for no real reason....Bal, if you can't be mature enough to ask questions or further look into things...then you should probably not fill out forms on the internet including all of your personal information especially without reading them....
"You have got to come up with some thing more concrete in terms of assurances" Bal..
I can confidently say, and I can assure you that all the reports on here about ASTAR are BULL :-)

BAL...

About the credit card and CVV security code.... we ask you that code for no other reason than to make sure it is your card and you are actually holding it in your hands....whoever told you that they can't charge your card without those numbers on the back lied to you and were probably already terminated....the cvv code is a security code that protects you, if someone were to steal your card they couldnt use it without that code.... your credit card is the safest way to make a payment for anything...your credit card is protected under FDIC insurance which means you are not responsible for any unauthorized charge to your card...that is why we record the call to protect you and our company...on that call you actually have to voice authorize the charge to your card, if you do not then it is simply not charged......that is also why we give you multiple chances to ask as many questions as you need and why you are told what you are receiving multiple times....we don't lie to you we are not trying to take your money...it is not a scam....
we have a direct link computer access with both mastercard and visa what that means, is that both companies have done a complete background investigation on our company and has given us the greenlight with full merchant privileges and you are as secure if you had given the card number to your banker since we are a licensed company...you recieve nothing less or nothing more than what is described to you....now think about it....why would we have been in business for so long if it was fraud or a scam?? To save yourself the time I will just tell you..we WOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS if it was a scam... if you have noticed... there is nobody on this website that has actually taken the trip... it is all people who thought they were scammed because they first off didn't ask any questions obviously, and second off started reading all these negative false things on the internet.... now I surely am not going to say all of this about the company on my TIME OFF if I was lying about it... this company really is legit and it is a WONDERFUL very AFFORDABLE vacation....

After a week of sending e. mail to them, phone call ....
I had my money back.
The result of their action :
- waste of time
- waste of money : I had my money back but 20 short + phone call
- I had to take a lot of time off from my work to solve this problem quickly
I really hope that all the people who have received this kind of phone calls will be abble to defend them selves.
Bal is right to try to help people and thank you for this.
But the worst for me in that story is that the guy who phoned me told me a lot of lies but he also ask me to tell my little boy that he will go to disney Florida....
How could he does that ?

30 DAYS MONEY BACK GAURENTEE
AUTHOR: Bal - (Australia)
SUBMITTED: Monday, December 10, 2007
Hi sandrine
MAGNY EN VEXIN
(1) THEY HAVE A 30 MONEY BACK GAURENTEE. Hence ensure that you communicate with them (Preferably thro' email/registered post) your intention to cancel this WRONG booking giving them this booking reference number.
(2) Call them and inform them telephonically that you want this cancelled. Clearly note down the names of the people you talk to. They WILL DEFINITELY hustle you around and try to frustrate you. Be patient the ensure that you talk to these people
(3) Your Bank CANNOT charge your card the US $ 998/- simple because they are disputed. DO NOT accept if they do. This charge to your CC is NOT your problem. It is the Banks problem once they have been advised of the illegitimacy of the transaction. The Bank will have to DISPUTE this transaction and revert it back to ASTAR. Communicate with your Bank in writing for your records.

Rebuttal for the Rebuttal
AUTHOR: Bal - (Australia)
SUBMITTED: Monday, December 10, 2007
Hey Gina,
In my case, the caller (Was a lady) clearly informed me that they want my Credit Card number for security only and not to charge it. In fact she was very specific that ASTAR cannot charge the card without the 3 digit code at the back of the card. This was the primary reason that I gave my card number. I was put thro' the recorded conversation. This was a very clear deception.
I think terming all these reports as 'BULL' sounds very immature and unprofessional, simply because these reports come from individuals without any motive. My only purpose of writing here is to caution people against ASTAR. I am doing this as a social service since I have suffered!!
You have got to come up with some thing more concrete in terms of assurances to some legitimate process in place to counter these reports.

All of the rip off reports on here about this company are a bunch of bull. This company is legit, our company sells these highly discounted vacations to people that filled out entry forms for the vacations in over 50 different countries. On these entry forms they give us a lot of their personal information, when they are QUALIFIED.... they are qualified based on the demographics in their area.... We do not charge the credit card until they give authorization on a RECORDED phone call for that charge... what they are receiving is explained to them MORE THAN ONCE... the reason we do sell these packages are to get them down here to have a great time and to visit a brand new timeshare resort.... YES they do attend a 60 to 90 minute presentation and after that they can go on with their vacation NO PRESSURE NO OBLIGATIONS.... We do not tell you the vacation is free... that is also clearly stated on the entry form they fill out... that it is NOT A CONTEST OR A LOTTERY....the company is for real...
