ATC Martial Art centers decieve clients by the time of signing up a membership. They first sell parents a Basic Training Program and tell them they can cancel their membership if their son doens't want to continue Martial Art lessons in the future. Later they push your kid to the Leadership Program telling you the same thing. You can cancel if you wish so.
By the time your son wants to leave martial arts because he is not interested anymore, they are unwilling to cancel your membeship and continue charging month by month. You try by all means to negotiate the membership cancelation and all you get is cold shoulders and threats of putting you in a collect agency and taking legal actions against your family.
I understand that you pay for the service you get, right? I paid for all the classes my son took, plus five more months without getting any class because we left the school. What is the problem on canceling a membership? I tell you why they are unwilling to do so and continue to ilude and deceive parents after parents: they are a very dishonest business and parents from all over the United States should check their credentials and rip off reports on the Internet before signing their son in one of these schools.
There are good Martial Art schools out there that don't require a contract for years to come neither complicate any parents life by the time of discontinuing membership. Please, avoid getting caught in their lies. They will turn your life into hell.

Thank you for your comments and please note all schools are independently owned and operated and some branches have different programs and rules as listed on the membership contract.
Example: In our Gallatin academy we offer non-contracts and discounted 12 month contract options. We also explain everything at the time of registration in full detail. Please read any contract you sign and if you are one of our students please call us and we will assist you the best we can, if you are a student at another branch please contact that location.
If you sign a contract with any company (cell phone, lease, car, cable) it is a contract. It is a lot of
work to run a martial arts school and hundreds of martial art schools close per year because they
cant run a school or some students can be flaky at times. The martial art classroom and billing office
have to be run different and rules are important. Even though we love to teach, a school owner has
to separate business from teaching to operate a successful business.
I can only speak about our location as every location is independently owned and operated. At our Gallatin academy, anyone can cancel any contract with a 30 day written notice and $100 cancelation fee as stated on the contract. Tuition must be current as listed on the contract and any other past due fees must be paid to cancel. If somebody moves, the tuition company put the customers account on a 60 day hold to give time to receive the documents needed to cancel (new utility bill and new drivers license) for proof, and it is the customers responsibility to mail all documents
within 90 days. If the cancelation is for a serious medical issue, we ask for verification from the physician and the same process of cancelation is followed. If the customer forgets, then the automated system starts billing again, and the customer receives notice by mail. This is all explained on the contract and paperwork you signed in person, if you called on the phone, we would have asked you to visit the academy to fill out a cancellation form.
Sometimes the real issue is a parent / student just drops out of the program and gives no notice to
avoid paying tuition or the cancelation fee. Then the signer of the contract gets mad when they get
a closing bill, or worse starts to bash the academy to avoid paying. It is not any school owners fault
if a member does not read the membership agreement. It is common in the martial arts industry
that 90% of schools are under contract with a tuition collection company to collect tuition and fees,
and it cost to cancel a contract and that cost is past to the canceling member.
We are not perfect and are always trying to improve our schools. We believe in being fair to all
students and having everyone follow same rules is important, even if a parent has overbooked a
students events or a student has lost interest in classes. When a student is late or they dont pay,
we send several letters and if needed after 90 days, we forward the paperwork to a collection agency. We always prefer to handle everything in house as it saves time and headaches.
As for your comment about deceiving people:
1) We offer a Free Class and a week trial program.
2) We offer a 5 day cooling off cancelation period.
3) We explain everything in the contract and everyone receives a copy.
4) We tell all visitors if you cannot commit to a basic program, dont waste your money.
5) We do not offer a longer leadership program as you stated, we only offer a 12 month program. We will cancel your program anytime with a 30 day written notice, your tuition being current
and by you paying the $100 cancelation fee. Just because a member stops classes
and give us no notice, does not mean they are canceled. They must fill out a cancelation form to
avoid any mistakes.
6) We dont negotiate the cancelation fee. It is listed on the contract and is the same for all members. Not giving in to a customer is not giving a cold shoulder.
7) We have not been open in Gallatin for 10 months, so you cannot be our member, as we keep full attendance records and our students know about our cancelation fees, as everyone reading this will also now know.
8) We (ATC) are a union of independent martial arts academies working together, and these academies are not owned by one person. All locations have different credentials and teachers.
9) We state all rules and regulations in the membership agreement, and those rules vary from state to state. They are based on state regulations, and we try our best to abide by local rules and regulations.
Again we are more than happy to try and help you if you are still having problems, but procedures
must be followed. I really do understand your frustration and troubles, but a personal online attacks or blackmail behavior on all independently owned ATC branch academies is not needed or justified; it is obvious you are just out to attack all branches, independent owners or union masters for a personal 2 year vendetta to give us Hell as you wrote on many online sites months ago.
Note:
In your last complaint 3/22/2012, you mention the similar complaint and never called me to solve the issues (if they are true). Again please call us and we will try to direct you to the right location owner. If you do not contact us you are just cyber stalking my family all over the internet. I ask that you Cease and Desist in these form of slander.
I dont feel a branch not-canceling your contract or other tuition issues justifies your malevolent actions of trying to discredit me personally or even worse trying to destroy my family, which in turn hurts my children. We are not perfect, but we have sacrificed and have done so much for our community and students. We have changed many lives over the years and have given so much to help the poor and sick. I will pray for you and your family and that you find peace and forgiveness in your heart.
