While I was a teacher, a representative from Athene Annuity came to school and helped me sign up to make monthly payments to them towards my retirement. It was a nice situation, I borrowed money from myself for unforeseen expenses and Athene took monthly payments from my bank account to pay it back. 

First, they sent a letter saying I had underpaid and I had to send them $270.00. I wondered how this could happen when they set the payments.

Then they sent a letter a few months later saying that amount was wrong, I needed to pay $135.00.

I decided that since I'm not teaching anymore and not contributing to the savings anymore, I needed to just withdraw all the money and invest it in my new home-based business.

I requested a withdrawal of my money on 2/7/2017 and they said it would take 5 to 20 days to process it. I asked if they had everything they needed and they said yes.

I've been calling everyday and I get the same evasive responses. They say it's still in processing. They say the processing department doesn't have phones. They say there's only one supervisor and she's named Amy but she doesn't have a phone or an email address. Some of the ladies answering the phone say my request has been expedited and some say it has been escalated.  I've requested they have Amy call me at least 6 times but of course she hasn't.

Athene's Customer Service? I've been trying to establish communications for 6 months - NOTHING

I contacted Athene to register as Power of Attroney.  Requested to make simple changes - address, contact info, register my POA, etc.

After two months of sending emails with no response, I called. "We don't like email, we use FAX or postal mail"

Two months awsted. Since then we've been at it with e-fax communications.  If we happen to guess right; nothing happens.  If they receive something they don't like, a form is sent with a new box checked.

NEVER a simple correspondence "thank you for contacing...", "here's a fax/letter which may help you", "why don't we arrange for one of our reps to..."

NOTHING.  I mean NOTHING. The most amazing level of complete disregard for an existing customer I've ever seen - it's simply arrogance and abuse

Consumer beware - there guys will cause you nothing but grief.
