This has gone beyond reason...I tried to cancel the service several months back & was told I could pay off my contract if I wanted to do so, so opted to wait until it expires...I even asked to have my complaint escalated, which gave me yet another even more surly person denying I had an issue...

I don't recall the issue at that time, but remember it concerned the tech rep on the other end of the contact knowing less than even I did with regard to how to fix the issue, the connection was consistently lost, and after 30 minutes of screwing around with Biff Binkley, or whatever bogus name the rep had, I gave up...

Today, having an issue with word, I went back to them just to see what would happen, and expecting nothing...The issue was that my view when typing did not reflect the actual margins of the document, & I was uncertain as to how to fix it...Again, I lost the connection several times, was advised by the rep that this happened all the time, and then proceeded to watch the "expert" dance around my desktop, opening menus that made no sense, searching for God knows what...After 30 minutes I thought I'd look under options in the word file, and saw an option; "show space between pages"...

I had no idea what it concerned, but selected it, and WOW, the problem was fixed...THEN it took me another 3-5 minutes to regain the attention of the rep who was doing whatever, and adding insult to injury, couldn't even explain to the rep how it was fixed...He didn't understand the simplest explanation...Who are these people?...A group of homeless people in Mumbai that are sitting in an internet cafe?...EVERY REP I have ever had contact with has less expertise than the average 9-year old...

I'll continue to pay their bloody $15 a month for this crap, but when it's done I'm pulling service in toto...That's the contract for this crap, both of my cell phones, the DSL, land line & DirecTV...Their lack of concern for their customers is abysmal, and I'm a former executive with the company!

 I use to work in Uverse Tier II Technical Support for AT&T. We were all low wage temps or contractors. However, the customers calling up had no clue. Plus we had offices all over the world. Also in several different states with the same low wage temporaries claiming to be "experts". Most of the things people needed were so simple but we couldn't tell them. AT&T specifically forbade us and instead we had to push connectech to them. We were given big bonuses and a residual cut from each customer we pushed connect tech too.

Plus to keep our jobs we had to do this. Many of the associates would simply add connectech and let the person fight to remove it. I know this wasn't your situation and that you personally had it added but there are many thousands of people who had no clue it was even added onto their accounts. We did this by the touch of a button. It was so easy in the system to add.

At the end of the month people were getting an extra $400 to $600 depending on how many people they had added connect tech too. This was a signifigant sum since we were making so little. (When I say we were making very little AT&T outsources a lot of its work now to temporary staffing companies or outside the country. The company is getting cheaper and cheaper the more money it makes. None of us had insurance of any kind or benefits of anykind. AT&T was so cheap we all had to work Holidays with NO HOLIDAY PAY right here in the U.S.).

So basically out of desperation people just added connectech to boost their salaries.

And no. You shouldn't have to wait all that time to remove it. Say you were dissatisfied with it and threaten to cancel your services. AT&T has another department called customer retention set up to do whatever to keep a customer. If you call in and just threaten to cancel your services the first agent, regular customer service agents, you speak to can't do this. They will have to transfer you to the other department. What this other department does is try to keep your business. they will cancel connectech. It isn't nothing to do but just push a little button. The fees will not be charged to  you. That's a LIE AT&T would have us tell customers.

AT&T is such a corrupt and crooked company. Their marketing is so on point however that they continue to grow. We couldn't even let custoemers who had chronic problems with their lines (Cable, phone, internet) know that they were too far away from the main box to even get the service. We had to LIE to them per management. Even when we could see the notes in the system. AT&T is such a dirty, dirty company.

After working for them and seeing how they operated I said never again.

The way to really get back at AT&T is start blogging about your dissatisaction like what you are doing now. AT&T is a HIGHLY PARANOID COMPANY and it has an entire wing of several different buildings dedicated solely to monitoring blogs and trying to figure out the identities of people who post. They contact the people and try to get them to remove the blogs.

Last, I am sorry to hear about what you have experienced. Cancel your services with AT&T. They lie, add charges, make up charges, push up  your bills, and treat their own workers like CRAP. They outsource so heavily and are so d**n cheap they are flying in computer and IT People from India on visas when you have plenty of IT folks right here in the US who are out of work. Why do they do this?

Because they would have to pay IT people here in the US already a FAIR MARKET WAGE and its simply cheaper to get a visa for the guys in India and bring them over here and pay them $30,000 a year instead of paying an American MARKET WAGE for his skills at $90,000 a year.

Managers were abusive as well.
