On July 13 2006, I promptly sent in the $50 rebate postcard that came with my wireless DSL equipment. I believe I called in August, inquiring about the rebate, and was told it's still being processed. I again called on 10/23/06, inquiring about my rebate check. I was informed they had received it; however, because they had the wrong name (he giggled and told me the name listed with my phone number was hispanic), that it was sitting on someone's desk and was not processed. My name was right on the postcard label they had printed, so I knew that was lie number-1. He told me they would fix it, and that I should receive it in 4-6 weeks.
I called again on 11/27/06, and this time, I was told my rebate was not received in time and they would not pay me because it expired. This was lie number-2. The previous reps never indicated this, so I knew this was a fabrication.
After being lied to, I became a little angry. I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back; however, I would like to do more about this (executive escalation, PUC complaint, etc).
Any ideas?

Regarding my original post...

Per my original report, I just had a thought that would make perfect sense, and would apply to many other people waiting for their rebate checks.....
There is a good chance that the rebate department suffered from a large case of employee abuse. This would make sense, as per one of my conversations, I was told the name and address for my rebate were different than what I filed.
So, one hypothesis is this: At least one person in their rebate department is changing the names/addresses so that checks are sent to him/her. This type of fraud happens a lot; however, a company such as AT&T would never admit to it.
If this is indeed the truth, then it appears that the AT&T rebate department is trying to recover their losses by telling people their rebates were not received in time.
