How did it happen? Was it a glitch with ATT wireless server? On the 9th of Nov 2010, I got up in the morning, grabbed my cell phone to make a call, just to find that my SIM card was not supported. Well, I figured that it was probably a server glitch; I will take care of it later. In the meantime, I went on to check my morning emails, just to find 6 repeated emails thanking me for choosing ATT and iPhone. At that moment it confirmed my suspicion, a server glitch, and to my surprise I was so wrong. I went to an ATT retailer, handed over my phone, and explained to them that it is prompting a message stating that the SIM is not supported. The ATT Representative logged into the ATT data base, pulled my account and found that my three existing lines had been upgraded to iphones on a 2 yr plan, and three other iphone lines had been added to my account. How did this happen? I asked. I did not realize the seriousness of this issue. The representative was very helpful, trying to reverse the upgrades that were done without my knowledge. And new SIM cards were issued on all 3 of my original lines. The representative also stated that the suspected violation was done to my account on the 8th of Nov, 2010. She had apologized for the inconvenience and reported it to management for an investigation. So I proceeded to return to my house thinking that all was back to normal. I proceeded to look into my email and received 6 updates from ATT, I followed by logging into my ATT account, and to my surprise did find the 6 lines still in my account on a two year plan with a total bill of $1,808.05. I also found two summaries with reverse changes attempted by the representative on a two year plan. A plan that I did not agreed to, with a total bill of $512.10 on two of my phone lines, AGAIN, what is going on with ATT; my account is turning into a total mess. I came to realized that I was victimized, that my account and my personal data had been compromised. I got nervous and worried about my identity and my credit, so I submitted a fraud alert to the credit agency. And requested a copy of my credit reports, on this report printed on the 9th of Nov 2010, shows nothing out of the ordinary. But it did show ATT Mobility inquiring about my credit on the 7th of Nov, 2010, and on the 8th the suspected fraud took place. I do not know anything else about my credit after the 7th of Nov, 2010. I could not sleep because I felt that my identity, my personal data has been compromised, my privacy has been violated. I took the time and printed all information, reports, summaries and came to realize one other key, how did ATT allow anyone to make changes to my account without my pass code??? It is ATT policy to receive the passcode from the account holder before any changes can be done, can I say negligent? Or is this fraud?? No one else has my passcode, so how did, AT&T allowed it to be bypassed? I took all the printed documents that I put together, on the next day to the same ATT retailer for an explanation, and to state my concerns about my privacy and personal data. I was informed by the ATT Rep, that APPLE located at such location allowed the violation to take place. Now we see AT&T rep faulting APPLE retailer located at such place to be at fault, I asked, but how did they get into my AT&T account without proper identity and my PASSCODE?... Well, I also proceeded to talk to APPLE representative as well AT&T points the finger at APPLE, and APPLE points the blame at AT&T. By the way, I checked my account again, and it is a MESS the 3 unauthorized lines has been removed and yet I am getting billed for a two year plan on my existing lines that I never agreed to, AT&T, how did you allowed my account to be modified without proper Identification and my verbal passcode? My personal data has been compromised, please help!!! I have a lawyer, and I cannot afford it, I am a retired Veteran, who served my country for 20yrs and this is the treatment I get from AT&T on Veterans Day. Thank you AT&T, Now I have to worry about my personal data in your data base, Now I have to worry if someone is going to ruin my credit that took me 20+yrs to built. My AT&T account is a mess.

UPDATE: AT&T Wireless and APPLE

AUTHOR: Luis - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, November 12, 2010

Further investigation:

Today at 1235 Nov 12, 2010, I called AT&T fraud department to get an update of this investigation, just to find out that the investigation has come to a close. No one was held responsible. However, I was informed by the department that the suspected activity did come from APPLE located at town center.  I proceeded to call APPLE corporate, Fraud Department. They state that they are not at fault, and that AT&T should be providing the information that I am seeking. I received no cooperation from APPLE department.  I provided the police department with this update, but it seems like they are not doing enough to find the perpetrators.

Let us look at some of the key facts here and I will let you come to your own conclusion:

  1. My credit inquired by AT&T Mobility on SUNDAY-07, Nov 2010.

  2. Our cell phones still in operation on the night of the 8th of Nov, 2010.

  3. In the morning of 9th Nov, 2010: my cell phones no longer in operation.

Notice: suspected fraud has had to happen between the 8th at night time and the morning of the 9th. Keep in mind, the SIM card was still supported by my phone. When the switch has happened then my SIM card was no longer in use.

  1. Six emails received from AT&T 1st on Tuesday, Nov-09 at 5:06 am and last at 10:37. Thanking me for choosing AT&T and iPhone.

Now let us think about this:

  1. Would a customer come in one day, and has his credit checked and approved to purchase the item 2 days later?

The APPLE store hours of operation: Monday-Saturday 10:00am 9:00pm

                                                                       Sunday: 11:00am-6:00pm

  1. If there is a delay, then the actual identity fraud must have happened on Sunday Nov, 07-2010 between the hrs of 11am-9pm. And according to the AT&T reps, APPLE customer identification policy was too relax, a more strict policy came into effect on the 8th of Nov 2010.

I am left with this dilemma, please help. I want to hold the party responsible for their action.
