I went back and forth with this guy in several emails. Initially he emailed me a poorly worded email regarding a debt, claiming that the amount due is $800 for a $430 loan with a past due amount of $300. There is obviously a lot of cutting and pasting in his email because none of the numbers add up.
The "Case File" is M4169M and the "Law Suit" number is 1731984. He also attached a poorly written "final notice" using the Florida State Attorney's mailing address in the header, along with the state attorney's phone and fax numbers. The balance due is stated as $350 in the attachment, and $800 in the email.
The "Case File" number is the same in the attachment and email, so I Googled the "Case File" number and it brought up numerous scam claims using the same number. The "Law Suit" number appears to be arbitray and I can find no indication that Florida refers to its court claims as "Law Suit #####."
The grammar in the email and the attachment are both indicitive of an overseas collection agent or scammer. He also calls himself "Attorney, B.A. M.S." which as far as I can tell doesn't mean anything. When I reponded with my correct mailing address so he could send me physical documentation he replied with a beligerant email demanding my phone number.
Both the email and attachment are full of a lot of improperly used legal jargon:
"You have to sign power of attorney. As per contract between you and the company what you had signed, Company can go for all legal process. and once class action will be started your resolveMent amount should be $6000 plus legal expenses and charges."
Power of attorney and class action law suits have nothing to do with defaulted loans, even if this were legitimate. Not to mention, the scary figure used in the attachment is $6000 while he used $10,000 in the body of the email. My name is not mentioned in the attachment, only the email.
I'm forwarding the emails and attachment to the Florida State Attorney as "Roy Wilson" is misrepresenting himself as a member of the Florida State judicial system by using their address and contact numbers. The ridiculous thing is, had he simply sent me a physical bill, I could have reviewed it with my debt counselor, determined is it was accurate and the best method of payment, and taken care of it.
