As I read these reports about these Audiophile ripoffs I am getting that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.
They got me too. Exact same M.O. as reported ad nausium in the stories listed here. Late July 2002.
I was walking down Lexington when a Van with Maryland plates with guys inside called out..."Hey, there looks like a cool guy!...want to buy some speakers?"
As I write this I can't believe what a stooge I sound like...the short of it is they had the reciept...magazine with a picture/ad showing the speakers with a suggested retail price of ..I believe $675 per speaker....again I don't remember the trade mags name... if it was real at all...the driver was from Amsterdam with a dutch accent, straight hair...slight build with glasses who called himself...Jan...Jen???
the other guy was a dah-dum kind of white guy... in their early twenties...originally from Park Slope Brooklyn now living in some back water of Maryland and hating it...short cropped hair with a rather ugly scar across the top of his head from a trip through a windshield, he looked like a Bobby Hill (the cartoon character)who was still trying to figure out tying his shoes...The Amsterdam dude was the talker, driver and scam man.
I hate to admit $500 for a pair...and a free ride to my Apt. in Queens as I was not about to carry these things on the subway or had the $ on me. They had tickets for the Yankee game that night and wanted to get going.I saw the tickets. I hope they caught a screaming foul ball to their heads while they were counting my money.
If it seems too good to be true...it probably is.
Question....why are all of these guys pushing the exact same speakers from the same company? Is Audiophile in this scam too. It kills me to think that my laptop was right there and I did not think to do a quick search first....never again. I hooked one to my system....never played it loud...from what I have read...they are not very impressive.
