It appears once again that the Public is getting ripped off.  Auto Club of Southern California along with many other Insurance Companies us several so called discounts.  Include good student discount, professional discount, mileage discount, but no one follows through and check these discounts.  For a Good Student Discount your student (son or daughter) must be in over 12 units per session?  Or calendar year no one really knows or can answer that.  With several Colleges (City) and Universties of which many have different sessions and units it is almost impossible to get a Good Student Discount even if your student has a 3.0 or higher grade point average.  This discount was made up over 20 years ago and no one knows why?  I would assume it had to do with the draft of the 1970 where colleges deferred students on a 12 unit and someone got the bright idea to include this in your yearly discounts.

The problem with this is that the Auto club never checks to see if the student is still in the 12 units by the end of the session.  City Colleges run 3-4 session a year ususally 3 months with classes offered on 2 days a week 3 days a week or 4-5 days a week.  Depending on the class the units can verify.  Some Units can be 2, 3, 5,  with a 1 unit lab.  Depending on where you are at at the college you can enroll with the understanding that if you take 12 units of which would be 4 classes and state that when renewal is in effective.  Go to the school and have the paper signed, then drop out before the withdraw period and have the 300.00 to 400.00 discount on your parents policy.

This is unfair and the Auto club does not check to even see if the student is enrolled in a class or if she or he is taking 12 units or less.  All they care about is if they are.  If a student cannot get the classes needed due to time, transportation or location for that session they might only be able to take 2 classes and be put on a awaiting list of which that does not help when they want that info.

This is an unfair discount given to many people who once again BUCK the system and there should be laws and information in place to prove you are taking 12 units.  If you cannot take that many for that session you should still get the student discount as your grades have gone up!  It should be based on grade point average not units, because you can be taking 17 units and get all D's but still get the discount because you are in the unit level.

This is unfair and should be looked at and revised!
