My car was towed to Auto Lab in Saint Clair Shores due to being disabled on the freeway.  They charged me $581 to fix my timing belt and water pump.  Once I got my vehicle back, "fixed", I didn't go any further than 25 miles and it overheated and became disabled on the side of the freeway.

They told me they'd tow the car for free but then charged me for it later.  They also stated that my head gasket was blown by no fault of their own.  They quoted me an extra $1400 to get it fixed.  When I stated that I was going to take my business elsewhere because my car has never had this problem, until they "fixed" it, they then charged me $74 for the "free" towing they provided.  When I tried to contest this, the mechanic, Bill, became very aggressive, kept talking over me, raised his voice multiple times, wouldn't let me get a word in edge-wise, and when I asked to speak with the manager he got even more upset.  I then talked to the manager Chris and he and Bill continually tried passing the buck to one another so they wouldn't have to take responsibility.

My car has a documented history of NEVER overheating, always being reliable and it's only 4 years old. My make and model of car is known for it's very dependable engine and it sent up red flags to other mechanics I spoke with that such a thing would happen with my car.

I contacted a family member who owns their own auto mechanic garage (for 29 years) in Kalamazoo (about 130 miles away from where I live), and told them the story.  They researched the whole ordeal for me while providing their own wealth of knowledge and had my car towed to their location so they could see my car for themselves.  It was discovered that Auto Lab was indeed negligent, dishonest, damaged my car and over charged me for their services.

Thank you for your time.

Two thing I am interested in hearing on this situation:

What kinda car do you own, so I know what to buy next?

What did your relative's garage find wrong with your car and how does that relate to the previous repairs by Auto Lab?

I have seen their building before and thought about using them because they appear to be a busy shop.

Thanks
Roger
