Greg, the owner of Autohaus lied to me about the history of a vehicle that he was selling me. I asked him specifically if the car had any flood damage or a history of any accidents or structural damage. He looked me in the eye and lied to me, telling me that the car had no history of flood damage or accidents. I had also asked Maggie, Greg's wife, who answers the phone at Autohaus prior to my going up for the test drive if the car had any history of accidents or flood damage, and she lied to me, telling me that the car had no history of flood damage or accidents. When I later checked the VIN number I found out that the car had been listed as a "total loss" by the insurance company due to FLOOD DAMAGE. I had been told on the phone prior to going up that the Toyota Warrantee was good for another 4 years. Greg, the owner, also told me that the Toyota Warrantee was good. However, due to the car having been listed as a "total loss" by insurance, the Warrantee was in fact, not good. Beware of this fraudulent car dealer.

Unstubstantied claim

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 07, 2009

This is the second instance of the same person filing an unstubstantied claim. The person, calling herself "Fitch", has received more than the full reimbursement of her travel expenses, for which I had no obligation, but didn't bother to remove her remarks from this and other web sites. Please note that no one else has filed similar or any claims for the entire eleven year history of my business. I don't believe this sort of claim belongs to the ripoff category as the transaction never took place.

Here's the copy of our original response:

We feel sorry that this prospective customer has perceived our business in the way she did and that we have been misunderstood. All of our customers in the 10 year history of the business have been 100% satisfied. More than half of our business is from repeat customers.

In this case, we have answered all the customer questions honestly. We have also disclosed that the vehicle had not been damaged and the title to the vehicle was clean.

We have grown a successful business on honest dealing with customers and we will continue to do so. Since (legal name withheld) was not 100% satisfied we will reimburse $100 which more than the cost of the trip in this case.

Interesting

I guess it pays to check out a vehicle BEFORE you purchase it and not take some lying car scum's word for it. Read an article a while back about how after some hurricane some 75,000 vehicle were "totalled" by insurance companies and of those 75,000, appox 37,000 or half made it back to the marketplace after they were suppose to be destroyed. With almost a million vehicle being totalled by katrina, guess there will be probably be 500,000 up for resale. Went to a local ford dealer who had a bunch of pick up trucks AT A REAL DISCOUNT that looked and smelled REAL funny, not too long after katrina.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You do have recourse you know....

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

Look at your paperwork. See if the box is checked that refers to the Clear Title, Salvage Title etc...

It is illegal to sell a vehicle with a salvage/rebuild title without disclosing it to the buyer, and the buyer has sign a waiver that they understand this is a salvage/flood damged car. Call the DMV and report the dealership. They will have license pulled in a heartbeat. Call the bank it was financed through, and ask them if they know they loaned money on a salvaged vechicle.

Don't take this lying down...You have the BBB and Attorney General's office to report this too as well.
