We found a boat on Craigslist that we were interested in and contacted the seller. They stated that it was at a consignment company and gave us a link. We were skeptical but the site looked legit. There were even multiple sites on web searches giving great reviews to this company regarding purchases and employment. The seller then accepted our offer - the seller proceeded to email a copy of his IDs - passport and driver's license to use to transfer title to the trailer.
Buyer beware! We still had questions but were about to send the money. I wanted to search a bit more. I started checking with the Secretary of State where they were located - nothing! I then checked the extended company name that we were asked to send funds to - this company filed documents in New York State in May of this year although the company has supposedly been in business since 2005. Google map search the different locations - street views show vacant lots in run down neighborhoods!
Additional searches showed that each of the supposed sites giving reviews originate out of India or Mumbai. Please don't send them you money - it will immediately forward out of the country. Unfortunately, many people probably already have because no negative reviews pop up on the web yet.

Almost fell for it too.

I, too, was in the process of buying a jetski I found on Craigslist. I was instructed to wire the money to some bank in the UK. There was no way for me to look at the product for inspection. I offered to pick it up as it was local. No can do. I offered to pay with cash at time of pickup. Can't do it either. I kept getting told that delivery is a must and it will be delivered to me but I have 7 days to return it if I don't like it. The seller also sent me a copy of his US passport and his California driver's license. I found that odd. Then, when I asked him for his phone number, he refused. He said he was concerned about his safety. I commented that if he's so concerned, why'd he give me copies of his passport and driver's license. Long story short, I backed out of the deal. It sounded too good to be true.
