My a/c line clogged and backed up overnight and the over-flow pan filled to capacity and then started dripping through ceiling as unit is in attic. This has happened before and I knew exactly what the problem was. I had heard Avery on the radio and they stressed honesty. Bullshit. I called in and explained my problem and was told it would be 89.95, and that they could have someone come out between 2-4. I jumped on that as I have a 5 year old that would be home by that time and needed a cool house. The tech called and said he could come out early and I agreed. He showed up- went in the attic - and told me the lines were clogged - and to blow them out would be 189 more dollars. My freaking jaw dropped. I told him that I thought it would be 89 and he said that is just for coming out to tell me what I already knew.
I have had this done for hundreds less and told him no thanks. I paid him and then called the Houston number where the person who first talked to me told me to hold on why she got the manager. I told them they DID NOT tell me that this was a service call charge and that there would be more charges to come and the manager pretty much called me a liar saying she was THERE while the rep explained to me that it was 89 to come out and then the tech would tell me what was wrong and then give me a total. I told her if that was the case - I would have never agreed to it as it is WAY too much. Nevertheless, she said that is what was told to me and was rude, nasty, and downright ugly about it until I just hung up. Relentless as well. The rep never said anything - she got the manager immediately - she never defended herself. This looked so d**n rehearsed and that is why I am writing this report. DO NOT call these people and if you do - make sure you know what you are getting. I am going to the BBB because I am not an idiot and I know what was told to me. I called my wife right afterwards and repeated the conversation. I would love to hear from anyone else that this has happened to.

I posted here earlier this morning but it hasn't shown up yet (takes time to propogate, I suppose). I'm in Mesquite, Texas and had a similar experience and coincidentally, the dollar amounts were the same. I told the person on the phone that I needed someone to come out and at a minimum, would need to have my system charged. I also wanted an estimate as to the cost of the overall fix. I was told the cost for the call would be $ 89.00. When the tech got to my home, he explained that the $ 89 dollars only covered him showing up. Charging the system would be an additional $189.00. Now - I'd had someone come out earlier in the week and he charged the system and charged me $ 120 dollars so when the person at Avery said it would be $ 89, that sounded somewhat reasonable by comparison and left me to believe that the first person grossly overcharged me. What a surprise to find out that Avery was the one that mislead me and the first guy had given me a great deal.
The problem here is that Avery mislead me on the phone. In my opinion, the person on the phone should have specifically stated that the $ 89 dollars only covered the tech showing up. If he charged the system or did any other work, that would be at an additional cost. The tech showed up after 5 on Friday afternoon, it was 88 degrees in the house and the forecast called for 100 - 103 degrees over the weekend. I basically had no choice but to let them charge the system but they WILL NOT get my business for the actual repairs. Nor will I recommend them to anyone.

You sound cheap! Everything has an attributed cost. Yah I think milk is too expensive as well. Name one mechanic that is going to diagnose your car for a fee then fix it for that diagnostic fee.
If it was such an easy to diagnose problem then it couldnt have been that difficult of an issue to repair. Why didnt you go ahead and save yourself the service fee in the first place then?
The real issue here is you should change your filter, check your coils for leaks, buy a safety switch that shuts the sytem down if it senses moisture, use condesation drain cleaner, and attent a good local home depot basic how to do stuff class.
