Got a letter on "Avery Financial Inc" letterhead claiming we had won $125000 sweepstakes. A check for $4980 was enclosed. The letter said that we had to call Mr Phillip Adams before cashing the check.
First real clue that this was a scam was the company address on the check. The company is supposedly based in North Grosvenordale, CT. Having lived in CT for a good number of years, I knew there was no such place.
We didn't bother to spend the money to make the long distance phone call, but immediately checked "Avery Financial" on-line and were brought to the Ripoff Report site. Obviously, we were not the only targets.
Needless to say, don't try to cash the check you get. I'm going to report the scam to our state consumer safety commission.

The only thing I have to say about this report is that the author should go out and buy a map!!!!! Ok... the first "clue" was said that the address on the company letterhead was "supposedly" based in North Grosvenordale CT. It goes on to say that the author lived in CT for a good number of years! Did she not leave her town? There is such a place.... it does exist! I am not saying that this letter was not a scam by "Avery Financal Inc.". I also have never heard of this company but I have heard of the other companies in the title of the article and do know they are actualy companies and are actually located in NORTH GROSVENORDALE CT. Im sorry for who ever has been scammed but before you post an article please do your research and dont make yourself sound so uneducated. You only embarass yourself!
