In March of 2006 I decided that I wanted to attend college to get a degree and find a good job. Well I found an ad for the University of Phoenix and applied. An enrollment counselor contacted me and told me all the details and it sounded good. I did all of the paper work and filled out my forms for fiancial aid. Everyone seemed very helpful and stayed in touch with me letting me know how to get started with my first block of classes.

Well when I started my first block of classes on April 3, 2006 I thought things were going well. The online experience went pretty well. But halfway through my first block of classes my academic counselor calls me and tells me that some of my previous college credits were accepted. I thought well that is great it will not take me as long to finish my degree. Boy was I wrong!!!! I finished my first block of classes and got an A and a B.

I was all set to begin my second block of classes when I find out that Axia College is going through a major transition and that with me transferring in so many credits that it put me in a unique situtation. I contacted my academcic counselor and she told me that they were working on my problem. Well I still have not heard anything about what they are going to do. I sent an e-mail and the only response I got back was an e-mail from my financial aid counselor telling me that my academic counselor is working on my problem and should have it resolved shortly!

That is bull and that is not the only problem I have with this school I still have not received my award letter stating how much I will receive in award money. I keep getting the same old story it takes up to 180 days for it to process. My financial aid counselor says its in the process point now yeah right!!

I wish I had not fell for their scam they are so full of their selves! I made a big mistake when I decided to attend this university or whatever they are. They are known under different names Axia College, Apollo Group, UOP!!!! Well I guess I got fooled and became another victim of their scam. Do not do what i did stay away from these people.

UOP not a ripoff

AUTHOR: Tx Chick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 06, 2009

I am a student at UOP and I have not had any problems with any of my academic counselors at all. Actually, it is up to the STUDENT to look further into the "Upcoming Courses" section and look and make sure they are signed up for the correct courses. If there are any questions, these questions should be asked weeks PRIOR to the next courses beginning. I actually was signed up for 2 wrong courses for my third block but I noticed 4 days before those classes were going to begin, but they fixed it IMMEDIATELY and I began the correct courses just one week later. I don't understand why people tend to blame everyone else for their problems and like to point out what people's jobs are.... everyone should know by now that you have to have an active role in everything you do. You must review your bank statements, review your bills each month, and so on. So if something should arise, you caught it with enough time and you get the problem taken care of and you don't point out other people's job description.

UoP

AUTHOR: Prissy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 17, 2008

I must say, that after reading your report, I agree that UoP must be running some sort of scam. The fact they admitted you is proof. Your grammar skills leave MUCH to be desired. I wonder how on Earth you are considered capable of doing college level work when you can't spell nor use the proper verb tense. Your syntax could use improvement, as well. If you intend on enrolling in a REAL college and completing a degree, make sure your first class is English 101 !!

I am an Axia student.

AUTHOR: Cindyjones - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 17, 2008

I was wary of online colleges at first. However, at my children's school, several of the teachers had their bachelor degrees from UOP. I called the enrollment line and found them to be very friendly and helpful. I also had credits transfer over and there were no problems.
I think what's going on here is someone who didn't read all the information that was sent, and is basing their comments on half-truths. And we also have a disgruntled ex-employee. How are those reliable sources of information? They're not.
UOP/Axia is a good school. They have always been helpful. They are not scammers. It's very foolish to believe the ramblings of those who post based purely on emotion. I have no loyalties to UOP at all, so I have no hidden motives in convincing you one way or the other.
Granted, there are many people attending, so there are bound to be a few problems. But, it's like that with every single institution out there. Really, don't base your entire opinion on UOP on a few overly-dramatic people online.
This is a decent school.

Let's Be Serious Here People.....

AUTHOR: Uop_is_not_4_me - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 28, 2007

I'm going to keep this short and simple. I am an enrollment counselor for UOP and I can tell you with all honesty that, your degrees mean nothing to most employers. Just do your research, please. A lot of you are talking about, how good your class was and that is was a great experience. No one is saying that your instructor is trying to get your money and no one is saying that you didn't get an instructor that cared. Who gives a rats *ss what you did in your learning team. It's all about, who is going to look at your degree and say, "an IT degree from an online class...please!!" I know I'm not the smartest man in the world but, I know when I smell something rotten. Unfortunately I smelled it too late. I intentionally don't enroll students now. The only ones I'll enroll are the one that says they're job wants them to have a degree to move up and they don't care where they get it from. That's about the best UOP can do for anyone. I know I'm going to have some UOP lover say all kinds of things like, they got a good job after graduating. Maybe that employer doesn't mind UOP and there are some. But why not get a degree from a school that is known by many or all as apposed to some or a few. UOP might be good for something but, a real degree it is not.

Thanks

-Soon to be ex employee (God willing!)

Do your homework before bashing online schools......or else, you may end up looking and sounding like a fool.

AUTHOR: Dr. W - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 04, 2007

Many online schools are no different than their F-2-F counterparts and some have support systems that rival or even outperform those traditional schools of yesteryear. You have to do your homework before you lay out the cash for the education you seek, just like any other college or university. Capella, Walden, UoP, AIU, Excelsior, and Thomas Edison State College are all schools which have earned the same regional accreditation as schools such as Penn State, Ohio State, Purdue, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Cal, USC, UCLA and a whole host of other DIV I schools, as well as their lower division counterparts. That means that their curricula, instructors, administration, everything has been checked out and has passed the same rigors that the other schools have been submitted to. This would also mean that those who are bashing these schools as not being commensurate to the more traditional schools, obviously doesn't know squat about the world of higher education.

In short, do your homework, because, yes, there are diploma mills out there, but this PhD doesn't need to defend his school, his reputation, or his dissertation. He already did that and has had it published by UMI/ ProQuest, just like the big boys do. And, here's another newsflash for you, a great many of the instructors at Capella attended Harvard, Yale, USC, Arizona, U of Miami, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. So guess what kind of education you get when you attend the classes being taught by those professors? That's right... a Harvard, yale, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, brown, Dartmouth, Penn education, that's what! Do your homework, people and you won't be disappointed!

I am interested in any legal action that begins

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 04, 2007

My husband has had a similar experience and know of three or four others with equally scary experiiences.

Interestingly enough I had a financial issue where they failed me in a class (I am an A and B student) because my final project did not post. As an IT manager I can talk circles around them about how that might happen. i resubmitted the assignment and elevated my claim four times. They refused and told me i had to pay $900 to continue school. Then I was contacted about 2 months ago and told that after this year had passed I could re enroll and that money is forgiven. They did the same to my husband, sort of, but will not forgive his. How is that not illegal?

This is a money scam and we want to join you in pursuing legal action.

Axia College of University of Phoenix Ripoff Report Rebuttal

AUTHOR: Richard - (France)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 29, 2007

I am currently enrolled with Axia College of University of Phoenix (UoP) and must comment that the faculty and staff are superb!

I am an American residing in the south of France and am fortunate to have the opportunity to attend Axia College.

All of my studies are financially funded by the US Federal government and the financial institution of my choice.

The curriculum is correct and comparable to that of a university environment.

No less than five counselors have guided me through the admissions, financial aid, and the getting started processes at the University.
Currently, I maintain a 4.0 average and am currently in my 17th week of instruction.

All documentation through the university that I have encountered to date is current, correct, and available to concerned parties.

University and military credit transfers are common. I am again fortunate to have 22 military credits transferred and another 5 college credits pending transfer. The delay on my college credit transfers is at my charge due to a financial debt with University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Technical support for information technology (IT) is available. I am a developer of web applications and services. I recognize the efforts of the IT team at UoP and commend their activities. Of course, improvement is always possible. To that end, UoP welcomes constructive suggestions.

Professors are available for questions and advice. Just as is typical with any university, the professors have office hours which are made available to students the first day of class.

To post a scam or ripoff report is a serious accusation. Please be aware of your legal responsibilities when filing these types of reports.

In a court of law, I would testify highly favorably to the professionalism, dedication to service, and overall performance of those individuals associated with UoP and with the university as an entity.

Best Regards,

Apollo Group Student in agreement with Financial Ripoff

AUTHOR: Zoreida - (Puerto Rico)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006

I am a current student of Axia College of Western International University of University of Phonix. It is a fact that the Financial Counselor do not have a clue as to what they are doing and they tend to forget it is up to the students when it comes to paying the loan. It has been a constant problem that whenever I start a new block, they have to push back the start date because mistakenly they did not put the schedule the way they were supposed to. Unless you are taking the class the loaner does not process the application or you have to start classes in a specif date for the reembursment to be recieved. The Academic Counselors do their best to resolve the student's situation, since it is their job to help students obtain their degree. The financial counselors however, fail to see this and end up screwing up schedules and the way the loan applications are filled.

I am currently waiting for reembursment since I need to buy a book that costs over $150.00 and cannot start classes without it. The Financial Counselor did not put the start date for the next course as he was supposed to and now I start class without the text book. This can cause a major problem for me to realize the assignments properly. The whole point of this is to get either the proper financial counselors to deal with the financial stuff.
